I was more than anxious to know where Thomas was taking me, I had almost told him to forget about it and just take me home. But it seemed like he had to muster up the courage to decide to take me to this sacred location. And anything was better than home, no not home, hell. Anything was better than hell at this point.

Thomas drove in silence and it just put me on the edge even more. I wish he would have just told me where we were going to put my mind at ease. Then again, nothing could really put me at ease. My mind was not only jumbled with the mystery of Thomas Augusto, it was flooded with the heart ache I felt for my father.

“Scarlett, I need to talk to you about something before I show you this,” Thomas said, his knuckles were white from gripping the steering wheel too tightly.

“Fire away,” I replied, my voice drained of emotion.

“Whatever you think Clarissa and I have… It’s nothing.”

I let out an exasperated sigh, “are we really discussing this?”

“Yes.”

“Right now?”

“I need to clear the air.”

“I forgot what you asked,” I said, closing my eyes.

“I didn’t ask anything, I made a statement. I said whatever you think Clarissa and I have… It’s absolutely nothing.” Thomas repeated.

“That’s not what she’s saying, nor is it what your actions are saying.” I replied bitterly.

“What is she saying?” He swerved into the wrong lane, but got on the right side of the road before I replied.

“She talked to me… About you… In science class.” I said carefully, not wanting to tell him the truth.

“Why would she do that?”

“I do have friends outside of you, you know.”

“I didn’t know you were friends with Clarissa.”

“We aren’t really friends per say…”

“But you said…”

“I know what I said.” I sighed. “The point is, she told me in science that she thinks you two have a thing.”

“Why would she think that?” Thomas asked curiously, he makes it so easy to believe he isn’t the player he is, or what the rumors portray he is.

“Because you didn’t kiss her after your date,” I replied.

“That makes no sense,” he shook his head.

“She thought it meant ‘you respected her too much’.” I was really becoming disinterested in this conversation.

“You obviously know that’s a load of bullshit,” he said quietly.

“I know,” I said even quieter.

“I kissed you on our first date,” he was whispering.

“Do you respect me?” I whispered as well.

“More than anyone else that is alive,” I had to lean in to hear him.

“Why did you hang out with her at lunch on Thursday?” I asked him, trying to regain my composure. I had to ask him sooner or later, and I guessed sooner was easier.

“I told you this, I hang out with girls to practice,” he shook his head.

“To exploit,” I corrected.

“Don’t be like that,” he warned.

“So you and Clarissa are…?”

“Nothing Scarlett, we are nothing.” He assured me.
