Author's Note: I LOVE THIS CHAPTER SO MUCH DON'T TOUCH ME

“Dad!” I shouted into the house excitedly. When Thomas dropped me off I noticed my father’s car in the driveway.

“In here honey!” I heard him call out from the garage. I dumped my backpack in the foyer and quickly went to the bathroom to remove my make-up and then put on some more respectable clothing. I entered the garage in 3 minutes flat.

“What are you up too?” I asked, walking up to him. He rolled out from under his car.

“The brakes were acting funny when I was driving home,” he smiled at me.

“Glad you got back safely,” I smiled back at him. He went to hug me but I dodged it expertly. “No way, grease monkey.”

“Fine,” he wiped his hands on his rag.

“So how long are you staying?” I asked, kicking a screw.

“I’m due in New York for tomorrow night,” he sighed.

“Oh,” I frowned.

“I’m sorry honey, it’s a really important meeting.” He said this before he left.

“Okay,” I nodded.

“Can I make it up to you?”

“You don’t have too,” I shrugged.

“No seriously, your mother is out tonight, let me take you out to dinner,” he bargained.

“Alright, let me go get changed.” I said, relishing the fact that I will have alone time with my dad.

We both knew where we were going to go for dinner: Panera Bread. My mom hated it, but my dad and I loved it. We always took the opportunity to go get it whenever Dad was home and Mom wouldn’t be joining us.

“I’m glad we’re doing this,” my dad smiled at me as he opened the door to the restaurant.

“So am I,”

We were seated at a booth in the back of the surprisingly un-busy restaurant.

“Hello, my name is Alex, I’ll be serving you tonight. What can I get you to drink?” The male waiter asked us. I would’ve flirted with him if I was with anyone other than my dad to be honest.

“Diet coke,” I smiled at him.

“Water for me,” my dad said.

“Do you guys know what you want?” The waiter noted at our closed menus.

“Yeah, I’ll get the Thai Chicken Salad,” I said, handing him my menu.

“I’ll have the Mac and Cheese bud,” my dad handed him his.

“Be right back with your drinks,” he smiled at me before leaving.

“You’ve gotten skinnier,” my dad said, shaking his head.

“No I haven’t,” I said looking down at myself. I was eating just the same as I always had.

“Seems like it,” he shrugged. “You should start with the milkshakes and burgers. All you ever eat is salad, sushi and frozen yogurt. And what’s with the Diet Coke? Are you dieting?”

“No dad,” I laughed shaking my head. “I’m not dieting. I eat this way because it’s delicious. I’m not trying to lose weight.”

“Just making sure, your mother diets a lot, and I don’t want you thinking you have to do the same.” My dad frowned at me.
