Saturday evening came quicker than I had anticipated. I slept in until 12 and then joined my mother for brunch with her friends at work and their daughters. I had an alright time, but I couldn’t stop the gnawing in my stomach, no matter how many waffles I ate. We left the brunch at about 3 and I asked my mom if we could go to the mall. She excitedly agreed and we went shopping for another 2 hours, little did she know, I was shopping for a date worth $300.
And now I was standing in front of my mirror at 6:30 and I was happy at what was staring back at me.
Thomas had texted me telling me we were going somewhere fancy, so I decided to class myself up a bit. I was wearing a short black dress with lace sleeves and high heeled, low-cut boots with golden zippers on the sides. My favorite part of the outfit was my Dolce & Gabbana hand bag that I got 2 months ago from my dad. It was obvious my mom chose it out though, she knew how much I loved it.
My dark brown hair was curled and my make-up was done perfectly. I was more than ready to sweep Thomas Augusto off of his feet. And nothing could ruin this, my mom was out at the movies with my aunt and my dad wasn’t coming back until next weekend. I had the house to myself, and more importantly, I could leave at my own leisure.
I walked downstairs to my living room at 6:45 and watched the Food Network. Chopped was on and I was watching intently as the chefs battled for $10 000 over the final dessert course. I was actually enjoying myself, and before I could figure out who had won, my doorbell rang. I sighed and pressed the record button, then turned off the television. What kind of boy actually shows up early? I got up slowly and walked to my front door. I was welcomed to the sight of a smiling Thomas Augusto.
“Hey- oh my god.” Thomas looked at me from head to toe.
“Are those for me?” I ignored his stunned look and brought his attention to the red roses in his hand.
“Yes,” he nodded and handed them to me.
“Thank you,” I took them and placed them on the table beside me. “I love them.”
“I thought they were nice, like you. No, no, I thought they were beautiful, like you.” He corrected himself. How in the hell could this guy be such a player? He was so sweet and kind; I didn’t understand any of it.
“Thank you so much,” I beamed at him.
“My reservation is for 7:30,” he stated.
“Oh, yes,” I realized we had dinner. When honestly I could stand here and just look at each other forever, I had a date to go on; I had a heart to manipulate. I quickly grabbed my coat and exited the house. I locked it behind me and we started walking down my driveway. I had mastered the art of walking in heels, especially in the winter. So I didn’t fall once, and I was very proud of myself might I say.
“Did I mention you look stunning?” Thomas asked, opening the passenger door for me.
“No, I believe you said ‘oh my god’.” I teased as I entered the car.
“Oh, right.” He shook his head and closed the door for me. He was such a gentleman! Why did he have to be so amazing?
“So where are we going?” I asked as he closed the door behind him.
“You’ll see,” he smiled when he entered the car.
“This better not be a stupid cliché date,” I blushed.
“What if it is?” He asked me as he started driving.
Then I might like you more than I want too! I wanted to say.
“Then I would have to believe you watch too many chick flicks for your own good,” I said instead.
“Don’t most girls like that kind of junk?” He countered.
