Author's Note: The next couple of chapters are where I am really proud of this story so um enjoy?
It was Thursday afternoon and I hadn’t talked to Clarissa or Jessica about Thomas, I hadn’t talked to them at all actually. But I had been communicating with my other payers. And they were getting impatient.
“Have you guys even been on a date?”
“Do you guys even text?”
“Have you kissed?”
“When are you guys going to confirm the relationship?”
“Are you going to break his heart within the relationship, or beforehand?”
And I didn’t answer any of their questions, I replied with:
“Just let me do my thing guys,”
And they all replied with:
“You better, or you can forget the money,”
I was under so much stress, it was ridiculous. The stress from school, the stress from my peers, the stress for all of my decisions. The only thing that was keeping me sane was the fact that my family was going to come together soon enough. It was so surreal and exciting.
The only thing that was really freaking me out was Thomas and Clarissa. I hadn’t heard anything about them from Clarissa since Monday, probably because she didn’t trust me. But I saw them hanging out together at lunch today, which bothered me a little bit. I got over it quickly though, what really hurt was the fact that he didn’t come looking for me so we could walk to class together.
I tried not to be bothered by it, but when I didn’t make an effort to keep a conversation with Thomas in math class, he obviously caught on.
“What did you get for question 8?” He asked me near the end of the period, we were just finishing up the work the teacher assigned.
“7 meters,” I replied dryly.
“I got 12…” he sighed. “Could you show me how you found your answer?”
“I’m pretty sure that’s the teacher’s job,” I continued working.
“I don’t understand it when she explains it,” he told me.
“Fine,” I let out an exasperated sigh and showed him how I got my answer.
“Thanks, I don’t know what I’d do without you,” he beamed.
“Probably go to Clarissa,” I said under my breath.
“Scarlett…” Thomas warned.
“Forget it,” I said when I heard the bell ring. I quickly grabbed my things and shoved them into my backpack. I sped out of the classroom as swiftly as I could without bumping into anyone else that was dying to get out of the school.
I hated starting drama with Thomas, and in this moment I really did not want to deal with it. I just wanted to walk home peacefully and painlessly. I opened my locker with precession and put on my coat, I placed my big headphones over my ears and blasted whatever music that came on shuffle. I just wanted to escape the world, just for a little bit. I walked out of the backdoors of the school, and I gave myself the time to look behind me, nobody was there except the water polo team that was waiting for the school bus to take them to a game.
After dodging numerous cars and buses, I had finally escaped the parking lot and was making my way towards my old elementary school. I was going to take the long way home today, the route I hadn’t taken since I was in grade 6. The route I had used to escape the mean boy that would push me and call me names if I walked home the fast way.
