Maya's POV:

I bounce up the steps to the brick building that 'holds the knowledge of the world', as Farkle says. I call it 'A place of ancient crap that I would rather not read'. Most people just call it the library.

I reach out to open the door but I feel a soft hand on mine holding me back.

"Peaches?" Riley says.

"Riles?" I respond.

"I think we should wait a little bit before telling them...you know, about us."

"Whatever you want." I smile.

We enter the library and see that Lucas and Farkle are already there. They are sitting at a table with books open in front of them. They both look up when they hear us walk in.

"Ladies." Farkle greets us with his usual saying.

"Farkle." Riley and I respond in unison.

"Sssshhhhhh." Whispers the crabby old librarian.

"We found books for you guys to look at that might be useful." Lucas whispers.

"Okay." Riley says. "Let's get to work."

We sit down and research for about ten minutes before I feel something tap my foot.

I look up and make eye contact with Farkle. He motions with his head towards the bookshelves.

I take the hint and say, "I think I found enough useful things in this book. Farkle, will you help me find another one?"

"Sure, Maya." He says in his horrible lying voice, but Lucas and Riley don't notice because they're too busy researching.

We both get up, the old wooden chairs screeching along the floor. I meet Farkle behind one of the last bookshelves and ask, "What happened with Riley?"

"I overheard Her and Lucas talking in the school library today, so I went to go say hi. When I got over there they were whispering, so I started listening. All of the sudden they stopped talking so I looked, and there they were, kissing. After that Lucas apologized and I didn't hear the rest because I needed to get to class."

My stomach churned with such force I could've sworn it was grinding up metal.

"And what makes you think she didn't tell me this already?" I snap.

"I could tell by the way that she looked at you in class and when you got here. Like she was holding something back from you that she really wanted to tell you but couldn't."

I feel my heart start to crack, just like it did when my dad left. I can't go through this again. I feel the burning sensation of tears in my eyes but I hold them back.

"Thanks for telling me, Farkle." I murmur. I don't want to make a big scene right there because I don't want to let my guard down, to let my walls break.

As we sit back down Lucas informs us that they have finished their research and now all we need to do is prepare the presentation.

I let the three of them do all of the thinking and listen so I won't look stupid next class because I don't know what to say and when to say it.

After they finish we all say goodbye and go our separate ways. I tell Riley that I should get home so I take the subway to my house.

I fall onto my bed feeling exhausted but my mind is anything but that. It feels like it's on fire with all of the thoughts zooming around in there.

How could Riley not tell me that she kissed Lucas and let him apologize? Why did she lie to me about that? It doesn't make sense. Does she not like me like I like her, was she actually just caught up in the moment the first time we kissed? Was it just a kiss to her? What about the kiss we had today? How did she have so much passion when she knew that she was lying to me? I don't understand anything. She is supposed to be the one that's always there for me, and now she's betrayed me.

I almost explode from all of the emotions until I realize that it's Friday. I can stay up later tonight because there's no school tomorrow. A thought enters my head. Riley betrayed me, and I can't talk to Lucas because he's the one that Riley betrayed me with. I also don't feel like talking to Farkle. He's said enough today. That leaves only one person that I am close enough to talk to.

Grab my phone and type,

Hey, can we talk?

I press send and within a minute it says, read.

The thought bubble pops up and turns into a text that says,

Of course.

I run out the door of my apartment while I form a text asking for the address.

I hop onto the subway and shiver from the cold air as I respond to the text with the address.

I type,

Thanks, Josh, you're the best.
