A Tainted Love

Chapter Seventeen

I watched as Amos sat down across from me. "So Hannah, what do you want to know about me?" he asked me. I thought about it a while before answering.

"Tell me how you became alpha of this pack and how you arrived here in this town," I requested of him. He nodded before starting his story.

"I was born about sixty years ago. My father was alpha of this pack. He was a hard leader, but we never went without food. He helped us through tough times, but then he got sick. He got something none of us had ever come across before, so we knew not how to heal him. His body tried to heal him, but that took away his energy and soon he was killing himself. We took him to a human doctor and tried to get him help, but the doctor found out what we were and sent us away with a few gun shots to follow.

"My mother was a kind soul and didn't want us to fall into ruins. After getting attacked twice from neighboring packs and knowing that my dad was sick, she gathered the pack and started moving us. At first no one would follow her, but when my father was awake, which wasn't often, he gave her full pull over the pack and officially made her the alpha female. He had less power than her now and the pack had to obey her.

"She led us to this land and we settled here. The humans had chased us for a while, but they never got close enough to kill us. We were lucky. We found this town abandoned and fixed it up. As travelers would travel through here, we would kill them. Soon no one would come here and we grew hungry. By this time my father could barely get out of bed and my mother was having an affair. My parents weren't true mates, so he couldn't feel the full blast of her betrayal, but he still felt the pain. He couldn't figure out if it was happening to him because of his sickness, or what was going on.

"I was a teen at this time and was reckless. I took a few of my friends, being the leader they followed, and took them to a clearing. There we waited until a traveler passed by. We jumped out and attacked him. What we didn't know was that this was a trap. The man had a gun and shot at us. One of my best friends fell dead at my side. I howled for a retreat, but not before killing the man. My mother was furious when she found out and forbade me from doing anything without her permission. I was soon becoming fat and not able to keep up in the fights.

"I was being fed well and just sat around the house. It was about three weeks after my friend died that my father died. He named me his heir and told me I would inherit the house. I didn't know it, but my mom was pregnant with Lily. Lily had no clue that she was born from another father than me, but I still love her like my own flesh and blood. She was my little sister and I was going to protect her. I started going to practice every day and soon shot up to the top of my class. I soon got the attention of many of the council members. They thought that I would be the next alpha. My mom was growing weak and I was now a full adult.

"Men from another pack came and attacked us. My sister was injured and I killed several of the men responsible for it. I couldn't reach my mom in time and she lost her life." He stopped speaking as I gasped and covered my mouth. This story was filled with death. I could now see why he was the way he was. His mother didn't do anything for him and he never had a father that was strong enough to teach him anything. I was beginning to feel sorry for him.

"Sorry about that, please continue," I urged him. I wanted to find out what happened next.

"Ok, where was I?" he paused a moment before going on. "My mother was attacked and instantly killed. The man that killed her took over our pack. My sister and I were treated like slaves, but what they didn't know was that I was saving my strength for when I would destroy him. I knew he was afraid of how big I was getting and would always stay with multiple guards. I waited for the right moment when I would be able to attack. I found that when the guards were switching places with other members of the pack to guard the alpha.
