Hannah's POV
I woke up to find Garret gone. I didn't know where he was. I got to my feet and walked toward the entrance to the tent. I heard a noise outside and walked toward it. I heard voices arguing and then I heard a howl of pain. I started running, but my feet felt like they weighed about twenty pounds. I pushed myself when I heard the howl of pain again and recognized it as Garret's.
"I'm coming," I whispered as I ran as fast as I could. I burst into the clearing and gasped. I came to a complete stop and my blood went cold. I couldn't breathe and couldn't move.
Standing there in front of me was Amos. He was holding Garret up in the air by his bare hands. He was smiling evilly, acting like he enjoyed what he was doing it. It sickened me to know that he could be happy when he took a life. He heard my entrance and looked over at me.
I put my hands over my mouth and took a step back. Garret looked up at me. He was covered in blood and only had a pair of shorts on. They weren't really shorts anymore because they were barely there and only covered what was necessary.
His arm was at an awkward angle and his nose was bleeding profusely. He groaned and looked at me with pain filled eyes. He tried to speak, but blood came out of his mouth.
I felt tears streaming down my face. "Leave him alone!" I yelled, moving toward them. I didn't understand how he could be alive. Lily said he was dead, Garret told me he was dead, so why was he here and why wasn't anyone around?
I looked back the way I came and saw that the tents had disappeared and only darkness was behind me. I was trapped. I had Amos on one side and darkness on the other. What was I to do?
"Hannah, run," Garret said. I could barely hear him, but I still understood what he was saying. I shook my head and took another step toward him.
Amos's hold on Garret tightened and he gasped out. As Garret tried to breathe, I tried to talk Amos out of killing him. "You don't want to do this. If you love me, as you claim you do, don't kill him," I begged.
"I'm sorry. If I don't kill him then you will never fully love me and will never stay with me. He has to die," I watched in horror as Amos turned away from me, grabbed Garret's head with his hands, and turned it almost all the way around.
I could hear the snap of the bone from where I was. I screamed as I fell to my knees; no longer able to stand on my own two feet. My beloved was dead. I looked up to find Amos moving toward me. I was terrified of what he would do to me.
He grabbed me by my arm and jerked me to my feet. I screamed and thrashed against him. I could hear someone saying my name, but I couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from.
"Let go of me! Amos stop! Amos!" I screamed, tears pouring down my face. I had no reason to live now. Garret was dead. I wished he would kill me. I closed my eyes.
Finally I opened my eyes for real. I saw Garret peering down at me, extremely worried. "It's only a dream, you're safe," he said, pulling me into his embrace.
I cried against him, trembling as I did so. I was so scared. The dream had felt so real. "It was so real. He killed you," I managed to get out.
"Who honey?" he asked me. He sounded worried.
"Amos," I whispered, almost like if I said his name louder he would appear. I glanced around, still not accepting that it was a dream. "He killed you and was coming for me. He touched me, trying to get me to go with him." I trembled again and Garret growled.
"He will never touch you again. I will not allow another man to touch you. You are mine and I will keep you with me forever!" He said angrily, snapping at the air with his enlarged teeth. He looked ready to kill and I knew he would do anything for me. That was one of the reasons I loved him so much.
