Chapter Twenty-Seven

Garret's POV

I watched as Hannah tossed and turned, screaming out in pain. I wanted to do something, but nothing worked. I couldn't get near her without her screaming out in more pain. I had to hold her down once as she started jerking and thrashing about.

It hurt me inside to see her like that and my wolf screamed at me to do something. I didn't know how Russell handled it when Paige went through this, but if she survived, so would Hannah. I just wished that this change would hurry it up.

I could hear some of my pack mates outside, but a loud growl told them to wait outside and not to come in. They wouldn't dare anyway. I was a mate protecting my mate in her time of need. NO one would get near Hannah without my permission.

I paced back and forth, not really knowing what to do. Hannah was screaming and I didn't know how long it would take. I needed some air. It was becoming hot in the tent. I walked over to the tent flap and opened it. I stayed inside my tent, but I stuck my head out the flap.

I saw someone running toward me and recognized their scent before their face. I waited for Reese to reach me. I knew what he was coming for, and I waited to know what he and Lily had come up with.

"Garret, may I talk to you?" he asked me. I nodded. I stayed put, but motioned for the people around us to leave. There were only three of them, but they were making me nervous.

"What is that you guys decided?" I asked him. He looked at me strange, almost as if he was surprised I knew what he was coming to tell me. He shook his head and started talking.

"Lily wants me to do what I want and I've decided." He stopped talking, giving it a dramatic effect, but in reality it was making me anxious to get back to my mate.

Hannah was still screaming and moaning in the background, but finally she grew silent as she passed out. It pained me to hear her and I knew she needed the rest that unconsciousness provided for her.

"I have wanted to be the alpha for a long time. I know that I never told anyone this, not even Bridget. I want to be the one in charge, not just the middle man and the beta. You've been a great leader and I respect you. I just want to start my own pack or take over a pack. I know that now that you have a mate, you will probably pass down all your power to your son, or daughter maybe; it depends on what you have. I have decided that I will leave with Lily and help her take over her pack in her brother's place. I hope that you aren't mad and will let me go, cause nothing you say can make me stay. Just let me go," he told me. I stared at him.

This was something that I wasn't really expecting. I thought that maybe Lily would join us. I would have to find a new beta now. I knew he was waiting on a response, but I was still getting over the shock.

"You may go. I know that I wouldn't want anyone making me stay away from Hannah and I can understand your need to be near your mate. I hope you all have a happy life. I have to go to my mate now. Farewell, my friend and make sure that you tell everyone goodbye," I stepped into the tent and closed it. I knew that I probably left him standing there with his mouth open, but I didn't care. He probably thought that I would put up a fight, but my reasoning for not was good. I wouldn't let anyone separate me from Hannah and I wouldn't do that to another male. I wasn't that heartless.

I walked to Hannah's side and held her hand. She didn't jerk away from me when she was sleeping and it didn't seem to bother her that I was so close. I wanted her to be ok and I wouldn't do anything that caused her pain.

I don't remember much of what happened next, cause the next thing I know I'm dozing off and feeling extremely tired.
