Bridget's POV

Brett and I heard the snarls and the smell of blood filled the air. I jumped up and looked around, remembering what almost happened last night and feeling a small blush creep up on my cheeks and then looked for Brett. He was looking out the window, having moved from the bed silently.

"We're under attack," I heard someone yell. It was just low enough to know that it came from the middle of camp, but still loud enough to hear.

Brett grabbed the door and threw it open. He turned to me before running out. "Stay here please. I don't' want you getting hurt," he said. I growled at him and pushed my way past him.

Before he could stop me, I had changed and took off running. The first place I went to was my tent. What I saw stopped my heart and made my body freeze. I changed into my human form and crawled on my knees over to the bundle.

It was bloody and was barely breathing. I looked for the monster responsible for this and saw Derrick. He was breathing hard and holding Micah in his jaws. With one bite, he could snap my baby's neck. I whimpered and pulled Timmy close to me.

I heard someone approach me from behind and smelled Brett. He was growling and I was crying. Derrick grinned evilly before biting down. I screamed as my baby fell lifelessly to the ground.

Brett roared his fury to the heavens and lunged at Derrick. I paid them no attention as I crawled toward my infant with Timmy holding on to me by my neck. I felt the tears rolling down my cheeks. This couldn't be happening. I wouldn't let it happen.

I rolled Micah over from facing the ground. His eyes stared up at me. He was unmoving. I could smell the early scent of death and knew my little son was dead. I felt a rage build up inside of me like I had never known.

I set Timmy and Micah down on the ground before changing into my wolf form. I shook my coat as I completed the change and licked my babies face. I closed his eyes with my nose and let a tear fall on his rosy cheek. I licked Timmy's cheek before turning to find Derrick and my mate.

Brett was pinned to the ground underneath Derrick and was growling angrily. I ran over to them and howled my challenge to the world. I had challenged Derrick to a fight to avenge my babies' death. He turned to me and nodded his head. That meant that the challenge was accepted.

Derrick got off of Brett and walked toward me. There was ten feet dividing us when he finally stopped. Brett rolled back up onto his legs and stared at me. He shook his head no and growled his disproval to me. I ignored him, letting my wolf take over and the memory of my Micah's death push to the center of my mind. I would kill this wolf it was the last thing I did.

I started circling Derrick and he did the same. I waited for the right moment, and then I lunged. I took out Derrick's feet and bit down on his fleshy belly. I tore out a chunk of flesh and spit it on the ground.

Derrick whimpered and howled his pain into the air. He was bleeding but I wasn't about to show him any mercy. I darted in again and snapped his leg. He fell on his side and struggled to get up on his feet

I went in on his wounded side and tried to reach his neck. If I could get a hold of that, I would be able to end this fight quickly. Just as I was about to bite down, Derrick rammed into me and sent my flying across the clearing. I landed on my side and kept sliding.

I got to my feet as soon as I stopped and shook out my coat. The dust flew into my eyes and ears, causing me to momentarily not be able to find or smell Derrick. I felt someone ram into me again and I went flying through the air once more.

This time the landing knocked the breath out of me. I struggled to my feet just in time. Derrick barely missed me and I could finally see. I stuck out my paw and sent him rolling. He growled and whimpered as he hurt his paw.
