Kate’s POV
I think I moped for three days.
Tink knew something was off. She kept giving me funny looks, and I couldn’t concentrate on anything we were doing to save my life. Eventually she told me that I obviously needed some time off, so that’s what I got. Some time off.
It was late at night, later than I usually would have been out, and I was venturing much closer to the camp than I usually would have, but I wasn’t really paying attention to just how close I was getting to Pan’s lair.
The moon was high in the sky, accompanied by hundreds of stars and not a single cloud. The light streamed through the leaves, and I was able to walk without a lantern, allowing the pure silver beams to guide me through the trees. Out in front of me and to the left I heard footsteps, they were approaching rapidly, and I barely had time to duck into the shade of the trees before two figures appeared not far off.
“Hurry!” it was a hoarse whisper, but audible enough from where I was hidden.
“How much farther do we need to go?”
I sat up straight.
I knew that voice. It belonged to that girl, Fauna, or whatever the hell her name was. I was instantly filled with loathing. “Here, I think this will do.”
And that was when I realized that the other voice did not belong to Peter. As they stepped into the light, my theory was confirmed. It wasn’t Pan at all.
It was Felix.
“Felix,” the girl whispered, “You don’t understand how heartbroken I was when you left. I… I thought you had forgotten me. I thought everything we shared was a lie.” “Felicity…” He drew her close to him and stroked her cheek with his hand. “I was just a kid. I was a kid who felt his family had abandoned him. Yes, I left, but everything I told you… Everything we did together. That was real. It was all real.” She shook her head and looked up at him. “But Felix, you were so young when Pan took you away. Why, you were only eight, but standing here, you… well you look as if you’re eighteen, which doesn’t make any sense. From what I’ve learned of Neverland, you don’t age here.” “Yes, that is true; however, Pan said he saw something in me, something that I may be with training. He wanted a second in command, but he wanted an older boy. Sensing the potential in myself, he allowed me to grow until I was a suitable age. “So… we’d be about the same age, then?” she asked hopefully. “How old are you,” he asked her, “Time is difficult in Neverland. Actually, it’s nonexistent, really. I could have been here for hundreds of years, and it could only be three for you. “I’m eighteen,” she answered.
“Then yes. We’re about the same age.”
“Oh, Felix, I missed you so much,” she leaned into him, and he lifted her chin, leaned down, and pressed his lips to hers.
My eyes widened.
Did Pan know about this relationship?
My subconscious went on to mock me.
Well of course, stupid. Pan does love his games, after all.
I could practically see the pieces coming together as I sat there watching them make out like a stalker. In my defense I couldn’t move without revealing my position.
But still, it had to have all been a game, some plan of Pan’s to get me to come back to him, driven by jealousy to beg for forgiveness. Well, if that was his idea, then he had another thing coming. You see, that’s the thing about games.
