'English Summer Rain' - Placebo
Chapter Nine - The L-word
"No!" I ran out the tower onto the streets of New York.
The concrete felt like needles against my bare feet. The buildings look taller than usual. The cars screeched to a stop as my feet pounded the ground in front of them. I ran across 8th Avenue, pushing past people. I turned into 87th Street and my feet soon hit grass. Central Park was a little haven away from Stark Tower. It's green plush glass and small ponds made a paradise compared to the bustle of the city. I slumped into the roots of an old tree, pulling my knees to my chest.
"It's a beautiful day, isn't it," I heard a familiar voice from the other side of the tree. It was a mans voice; smooth and haughty.
"For some," I whimpered. I ran my hands over my bare legs, and untucked my black t-shirt from my denim shorts. The person laughed a little and silence came over our side of the park. I picked at the grass and scanned my eyes over the skyscrapers above.
"Why? What has got you so down?" His voice didn't carry a drop of concern. I closed my eyes and tried to picture Central Park with out the New York skyline.
"My boyfriend used the L-word," I grumbled. It seemed like a pathetic reason to be upset, but it had freaked me out. I had never heard it in a situation that didn't involve family ever before.
"The L-word? What is a L-word?" He replied, I opened my eyes again and my eyebrows knitted close together. I stood up and brushed myself down. I had never known anyone who didn't know what the L-word was. My hand trailed across the bark as I moved to the other side of the tree. The man had hair as black as a raven, a simple green shirt on and black slacks. His lips curled into a smile as his sparkling green eyes met mine. Loki.
"Why are you here?" My voice was shaking. "Your supposed to be in lock down."
Loki shook his head. "I, what would you say, escaped!" He grinned at me. "Now, back to your issue. Where is the big guy anyway?"
"What's it to you?" I taunted, reaching into the waistband of my shorts.
"No need for violence, child," Loki purred looking at the gun lodging under the hip of my shorts.
I looked behind me to see Thor strolling along the grass. He could always sense when I was upset and follow me to comfort me. His blonde wavy hair was flowing in the wind like some hair product advert. His eyes met with mine and he started to run towards me.
"Go home Loki," I said through gritted teeth.
"What is going on here?" Thor boomed, "Loki what are you doing?"
"Why, it's nice to see you too!" Loki mocked. "If you must know I came to pay an apology to Banner!" I shook my head. He wasn't going to get anywhere near Banner. Not this time. His face looked apologetic but his eyes had that glint. He stood up, towering above me, but a little shorter to the Asguardian beside me. He leaned forward into my ear, whispering: "I'm giving you a head start. Run."
I started to back off slowly. I kept my hand close to my waistband and speed walked to Stark Tower. Tony's worried face looked down at mine as I rushed past him.
"Wait," He commanded, grabbing my arm. "What's going on?"
"Loki is back, we are getting a head start. He's after Bruce." I spoke breathlessly.
Tony's eyes went wide. "Why Banner! For goodness sake Loki! How long have we got?"
"I don't know. Get everyone suited up and in the meeting room." I asked, making my way to my to the suit room. I grabbed my suit and put it on for the first time. I folded up my shorts and t-shirt and put them neatly under the manikin and went to the meeting room to see the others.
I felt numb. I told them what Loki had said, and asked for a plan. Bruce just looked up at me with an emotionless face. My body shook under the layers of leather. I couldn't feel anything. Tony stood up from his chair and started pointing out a plan. We had a head start and we had to stop him. Thor came into the room, looking flustered.
"Loki isn't giving up. He's going to take us down one by one leaving you," He pointed at me. "Until last. He's either going kill us or take us as slaves."
"He wants to make us his flying monkeys or hanging us on the wall as trophies?" Tony mocked and we all groaned.
"Exactly. The only way to stop him is..."
"Is to shove him in the cell we made for the Hulk," A strong accent came from behind us all. Fury stood with his arms folded across his chest. "Sorry, Banner, we are renting out your room again."
Bruce nodded and we all dispersed from the room. Bruce's eyes met mine and I smiled weakly.
"Sorry." I whispered.
"Don't worry, but it looks like it's going to be the battle of New York again... Without aliens though," We went outside, stalking the streets of New York. An earpiece was fitted into my ear. "Hold on," Bruce halted us all looking at a device he pulled out of his slacks pocket. "Gamma radiation. Strong gamma radiation. Loki has made another machine."
We all looked up to the blue sky and a rip was opened in space. Monsters and aliens like never seen before came pouring out, more than at the battle of New York. One landed straight in front of us and I grabbed both of my guns, one in each hand. It's green skin was peeling, revieling black muscle below. Its eyes were red and blank. Nails like eagle claws curled under its fingers and bones ripped through its figure.
"Fury," I whispered into my ear piece, "This is more serious than first thought."

It's happening!!!!!!!!!!!!
