Kamen Rider - an introduction to the series

Japanese bug eyed super heroes. yep.

Ok I'll be serious with the backstory:

Kamen Rider was created in 1971 by manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori. If you've haven't know him, he was famous for creating many excellent manga such as Cyborg 009 and Skull Man.

Now there are many different stories in the franchise, but I'll be talking about the first one here: (In my own words + some wiki help)

"The world was plagued by Shocker, an evil organization who kidnaps innocent people and turns them into mutant cyborgs. However, one victim named Takeshi Hongo escaped before the final brainwashing. Now he destroys the Shocker organization as Kamen Rider 1! (1 as in Ichigo)"

And then more Kamen Riders are revealed over the years.

There's actually two eras in the Rider franchise. (You rider fans obviously know this)

The showa era starts from the original series and stops to J.(according to Kamen Rider Taisen) However, this is not the fact as the showa rider season ended with Black.

The Heisei era officially started in Black RX, but Toei was like: "oh it's the year 2000 let's make Kuuga the first Heisei rider." So yeah Kuuga is the "first" Heisei rider. To avoid this confusion, we're going to stick with the toei rider era, with J being the last showa rider and Kuuga starting as the first Heisei rider.

There are a total of 33 main riders, excluding all the secondary ones. They are (in order of appearance):

8. Skyrider (otherwise as the show calls it: Kamen rider)

10. ZX (First rider to not have a TV show)

13. Shin (Second rider to not have a tv show, also there's no part one. Wait wha-)

14. ZO (Had an American release on the Sega CD, god the dubbing's awful.)

15. J (only rider to have a giant mode. No, Ichigo doesn't count.)

16. Kuuga (First OFFICIAL heisei rider)

17. Agito

18. Ryuki

19. Faiz (or 555)

20. Blade

21. Hibiki

22. Kabuto

23. Den-O

24. Kiva

25. Decade (10 year anniversary of heisei riders)

26. Double

27. OOO

28. Fourze (40th anniversary)

I actually know the first ten Heisei riders very quickly because of the K-Touch.

Some extra Kamen Rider stuff:

Kamen Rider Amazons: The show where you can only find this on Amazon Prime. It has redesigns of the Amazon riders, a red and green one. I recommend watching this because it has the plot that a typical rider show doesn't have. BTW it's a dark and violent show, but if you watch GARO you'll be fine.

There's two seasons, but watch the first season. It gives you context on what's gonna happen for season 2.

G: A member of SMAP becomes the wine loving Kamen Rider and meets the 10 heisei riders. end of story. Worms also appear.

Kamen rider Reboots: I haven't watched "The First" or "The Next", but it's very different. It's dark themed and the soundtrack of "the next" is awesome. Only 1, 2, and V3 got a reboot.

Kamen Rider Zero-One is the current series being aired (September 1, 2019).
