Today was gonna be the day we fly home, and I got to sit by Matt on the plan ride home, considering everyone else expected me to know them.
Matt walked out of his room and I dashed into his arms.
"I feel like I haven't seen you in years" I bury my face into his chest. He chuckles and pats my back.
"Miss you too" he says.
I look up and notice his head full of hair.
"Didn't you go through chemo?" I ask and point at his brown hair.
"I'm the lucky ones whose hair didn't fall out" he smiles.
We ride the plane home. He smiled when I looked at him, but he was hiding pain behind that fake grin.
"Cut it out. What the matter?" I say.
"Nothing, I just kinda miss the girl who wouldn't stop talking about surfing" tears fill Matt's eyes.
I roll my eyes. How obsessed was I with surfing? I was done hearing about what I was or wasn't.
I grab my pillow, phone, ear buds, and pillow. "Tell me when we land in-" I stop talking.
"Florida" he gently reminds me.
"Yeah, that." I mutter and put my ear buds in my ears and gently fall asleep.
We got off the plane and we headed home. I hesitantly walk into my new house. This isn't familiar whatsoever.
"Welcome to our new house" Seth says as he walks in, juggling his luggage.
"It's amazing! Its huge! And there's a beach in our backyard?!" I gasp as I step out on our patio.
My mom smiles.
"Take a look at your room. Its finished" Matt grins.
I dash upstairs and gasp when I walk into my room. It was pink, black, and white themed. There was a black leather couch and a flat screen TV. I had a canopy bed, a walk in closet, and my own bathroom. I had my own balcony with a couch and everything. I couldn't be more grateful.
I plopped onto my bed, but something caught my eye. My wall, it was filled with ribbons, trophies, and medals.
I walk over cautiously. To my surprise, there were no field hockey awards. I took a closer look.
Surfing.
I gently outline the trophies and medals with my fingers. I was first in almost every competition.
Tears came to my eyes. Why couldn't I remember anything? If I was so great at it, I would be able to remember it right?
Joel walked into my room.
"Are you okay?" he asks.
I nod and quickly wipe away tears. He was really cute and I couldn't cry in front of him.
"You don't remember, do you?" he asks.
"Ugh! Why is everyone telling me this!?" I walk out onto my balcony. He follows me and stands next to me as we watch the beach.
"Do you remember me?" he asks.
I shake my head at look down at my feet. It got really silent. I could tell he was thinking something.
Joel sighs. "Talise?" he asks.
"Hmm?"
"Would you like to see a movie with me tonight?" he asks.
My eyes widen.
"Are you asking me out on a date?" I gasp.
"If you prefer to call it that." he grins.
I giggle. "Sounds like a date" I smile.
I dialed Christine's number in my phone. Even though I didn't know her, she was the only one I could come to for help.
"Talise?" she picks up.
I bite my lip. "I need your help"
"With what?"
"My first date outfit with Joel" I choke out.
I could hear her smile through the phone. "I'll be there in two minutes"
I hung up the phone and fell onto my bed.
Just as promised, she showed up.
"What am I wearing?" I ask as she scans my wardrobe.
She pulls out a champagne colored dress with light grey polka dots. It was strapless and had a bow belt around the waist. It was layered and ended right above my knees. She pulled out a pair of wedges with it.
I gasped. "You have the most amazing fashion sense!" I run up and hug Christine tightly. She started shaking in my arms.
"Don't cry" I demand as I pull back and look at her face. She had puffy eyes and tear stains on her cheeks.
"You have to help me" I whine.
She controls her crying immediately and plugs in my curling iron. I sit down and let her do my makeup and hair. I slip into my dress and shoes. Then I get to look at myself in the mirror.
I almost fainted. I looked like an angel. The color of the dress complimented my skin and hair perfectly. My makeup was amazing and my hair was curled and fell perfectly on my shoulders.
"Thank you, so much!" I say.
Christine just smiles. She looks like she wants to say something.
I sigh. "I know that I lost whatever memories I had before whatever incident. But I want you to know that I'm trying to remember, I'm really trying but I just cant! And even though you were my friend, I still call you my best friend, whether I remember what happened or didn't"
She hugs me tightly for a minute.
"Oh! I forgot something" Christine gasps. She buries through my luggage, pulling out a small velvet box.
She opens the box and hands me a locket. Its said Forever on it. I open the necklace to reveal a picture.
A picture of Joel and I together. Tears came to my eyes. I wished I could tell him I remembered everything between us, and tell him I did, but I would be lying.
"Don't cry. You'll mess up your makeup!" she demands.
I close the locket and put it around my neck.
Date time.
I came home tired. I walked up to my room, hoping to land in my bed and fall asleep. But instead, I tripped over something.
"Ouch" I muttered as I pulled myself up from the ground. I take a look at what I fell over. It was a box. Full of DVD's. I read a couple labels of them. And gasped when I flipped through them.
They were videos of me surfing.
