I knocked on Christine's bedroom door gently. No music was playing and I couldn't hear her on the phone so she must've heard the knock.
She opened the door, took one look at me, then started to shut her door. I stuck my foot out so she wouldn't budge.
"Listen" I demanded. She walked away leaving the door opened. I followed her into her room shutting the door behind me. Christine sat on her bed and looked at me.
I didn't know where to start. My mind got all jumbled up with words and reasons.
"I shouldn't have cheated on Joel. Espically with your brother. It was a spur of the moment thing and was really stupid." I looked at her to see if she wanted to say anything before I continued.
"Have you talked to Joel yet?" Christine eyed me closely.
I shook my head and started pinching the palm of my hand. This usually calmed me down and prevented me from breaking out into tears.
"Please forgive me" I whimpered. Tears streamed down my cheeks but I still kept cool.
She got off her bed and wrapped her arms around my neck and craddled me into a hug. She hugged tightly, not letting me go for minutes. She finally pulled away with tears streaming down her face also. Which was odd, because I never saw her cry before.
"I have to forgive easily, espically with you" she started saying. " Ever since the accident, I learned to embrace what I have now, because I could be losing everything"
I wiped a tear away from her eyes. She grabbed her phone and house keys and stood up.
"Lets go" she said. And started walking out the door.
"Huh?" I asked.
"Let's go surfing" she winked. I got the hint that she knew about my laptop and competetion. And how she was going to help me.
On the beach we took off our clothes to reveal or skimpy swimsuits. Me and her always wear our bathing suits under our clothing, just in case.
We surfed until sunset and watched foreworks go off. We have a town gathering where we barbeque, swim, and set off firworks every month. Its really nothing special, just an excuse for the adults to get drunk.
It was countdown to the 4th of July. And typically I loved the fireworks and barbeque. Me and Christine ran over to the grilling only a couple blocks down. A couple adults saw us.
"Hey Talise!" Mrs. Brown yelled at me. She was a close friend of my parents, psh, everyone was. I waved back and smiled. She was holding a red solo cup and laughing with a couple of other adults around her. Drunk much?
I grabbed a hotdog, practically inhaling it. I was hungry and had an appitiete for some meat. I was about to reach for another one but Christine nudged me. I turned around to find Joel laughing with another girl.
She looked familar but I couldn't remember. School? Mall? I had her name on the tip of tounge. I felt mad and upset. I saw them part, her going towards her pool, Joel walked over to the bonfire. No other people there and was a perfect place for alone time. I stormed over once they sat down on a log. Christine followed closely behind me.
I crossed my arms and he stood up and looked up. He didn't seem to defencive. I just stared at him for a minute and dropped my gaze. I had to remember why I was here.
"Who is she?" I whimpered. I looked into the blue eyes I have missed so badly. Don't give up.
"A close friend" He smiled. Clearly, with no heart. Like this was for payback.
