"Jade! Sebastian!"
"Luz! We have to go! Jade is smart they'll be fine!"
"Vanessa I can't!"
"Then die! Abuela we have to!!"
I groaned as I sat up, my head pounding. The crackle of fire and smell of smoke made me panic. The whole building was coming down, and it was bringing us with it if I didn't do anything. With the smell of smoke filling my lungs I grabbed Sebastian from the hammock and wrapped myself around him. I held him in my upper arms. My knees and elbows resting on the floor to keep me from crushing him. He cried and screamed for help as I coughed. the tile floor under me seeming to warm up. I lifted Sebastian off the floor as the smoke grew heavier and the heat intensified.
"Help us! Someone please!" I screamed out and I heard yelling from another room I kept yelling for help. Tears pouring down my face. Sebastian was crying hysterically. I heard the roof creak and snap. It plummeted down and hit my leg. Probably breaking it. A blow like that would've killed Sebastian. I screamed in pain and Sebastian yelled my name as loud as possible.
"Sebby! Go out the window!" I said as I slowly pushed myself up and to the window.
"But what about you sissy?" Sebastian asked.
"I'll be fine. Please Sebastian." I coughed.
"Sissy!"
"Sebastain, I don't have the time to argue. Go!!" I yelled.
"Sis... ok." He kissed my head and crawled to the window and started yelling. After a few minutes I saw someone take him out of the window frame. I coughed heavily? The smoke filling my lungs as I drug myself forward and held myself up on the window before slouching over and coughing like mad. My head reeled and pain shot through my body before I passed out.
---
"She's waking up!"
I shot up and panicked, trying to rip the cords out of my arms and pulling the mask away from my face. I trashed around as people ran into the room.
"Jade! Jade!" Lin was calling my name as the doctors tied my arms to the bed and restrained me. I looked at him as I was crying, tears rolling down my face.
"Miss Blasko. You are ok." One of the nurses said. I nodded as they fixed my tubing, I calmed down enough for them to undo my restraints. They changed the mask into these things that stayed in my nose and I thanked them. Lin sighed.
"Jade.. I'm so sorry."
"What are you sorry for.." I asked.
"When I saw the building on fire I froze. I didn't go in and try to help you."
"Lin that's not your fault. Hell I would've done the same. Your just lucky I'm a quick thinker." I smiled, grabbing his hand softly. He looked at me and laughed.
"Thank god. Creer en su familia, creer en ti mismo."
"Believe in your family, believe in yourself?" I asked
"Abuela used to tell me that." Lin sighed, "I'm happy you speak Spanish."
"When I was little I wanted to be a Spanish teacher.. I taught myself Spanish as a way to cope with my families deaths. First my dad. Then my grandmothers, then my grandfathers right infront of me.. then my cousins and aunts and uncles and finally my mom.." I felt tears fill my eyes.
"Jade..."
"I'm sorry. Everyone I know gets hurt. You should just leave my at the orphanage and let me die." I muttered.
"Jade. We aren't giving up on you. You are the nicest girl I've ever met. You are so sweet, helpful around the house even though I know your hurting you still stay happy for Sebastian. I love it so much. You are so sweet and I." He nearly broke down crying, "you're amazing Jade. Vanessa and I are going to fight every single barrier in order to adopt you."
"Y-you want to adopt me?"
"Of course." Lin smiled and I laughed, tears rolling down my cheeks.
"Thank you for saving me. Thank you."
