Chapter 4

“Chase!!”

“What?”

“Come here!”

Chase was probably the only brother I hadn’t hung out with in a while.  He was always so quite and in his room.  He walked in and stood at my door which was wide open.

“Can I help you?”

“I wanna hang out”

“Why?”

“Because you’re my brother.”

He walked away and I sat on my bed a little hurt.  Our family seemed to always forget Chase.  Chance is always getting in trouble so all of the attention goes to the trouble maker twin.  I followed after Chase into his room.

The room was covered in paintings, sketches, and photographs.  He was really talented,  I almost envied him.  I noticed a picture of all of us siblings, it was such a natural picture that it made it beautiful.  It must have been before Chad left for college because Chris wasn’t born yet.

“That’s from the day Chad left.”

I turned around to find Chase leaning on the wall behind me.

“These are amazing Chase.”

“Thanks”

I looked around the room more and noticed a invitation to a art show on his desk.

“Whats this?”

“Nothing.  I just got invited to show my art in a show at this gallery in New York.”

“What do you mean nothing?  This is a big deal. Do mom and dad know?”

“No I never showed them.”

“Well I’m sorry to tell you this but you really need to show them.  This is a big deal.  You never know what this could bring.  And if you don’t tell them I will.”

He gave me a look but then he thought through what I was saying and grabbed the letter and went downstairs.

“Mom, dad I have something to tell you.”

“Please tell me you didn’t get a girl pregnant.”  My mom looked up automatically

“NO!  I just got invited to show my art in an art show.”

“What why didn’t you tell us?”

“I didn’t think you would let me.  Its in New York”

“Well lets get me my laptop and I’m going to start booking flights”

Chase was surprised at how fast mom wanted to leave.  I think she was in major need of a vacation.

“Mom you don’t have to book the flights now its in like four months.”

Dad interrupted the spontaneous trip planning.  “Chase, Casey why don’t you go upstairs and let mom and I talk about this”

We nodded and went back upstairs.  I sat down on Chase’s bed.

“Chase I really like your work”

“Thanks Case”

“What do you like better photography or painting?”

“I like both a lot.  I like to take pictures of things and then paint the picture”

I sat in Chases room all day and read The Hunger Games.  I guess I was sitting in the same position for quite a few hours because Chase interrupted my reading to show me a painting.
