chapter 16

After the nurse lead her to her mother’s room she texted him the room number and took a deep breath. She entered the room. Her mother was lying there with machines attached to her from all over. Kerry was horrified, how could this, happen to her and why this was happening to her mother. As tears streaked down again her mother opened her eyes.

“Hey sweetie” her mom tried to say as perkily as possible.

“Hi mom how are you doing?” Kerry asked

“I am fine, just a little bump in the road” she said with a smile. One thing Kerry always admired about her mom was that she was always happy and had hope, she was always and forever an optimist.

“I love you” Kerry said with a smile as she grabbed her mom’s hand and pulled up a seat next to her bed.

“I love you to sweetie, forever and always” her mom said still smiling, giving Kerry hope just like always. Just then her phone buzzed, she looked down and Niall had texted her that they were outside. Kerry got up slowly and went outside. She greeted Mrs. Horan and then they all went inside. Kerry’s mom perked up the minute she saw Niall and Mrs. Horan

“hey guys show are you, long time no see” she said to Niall the biggest, grin on her face “so what brings a world famous pop star like you to Mullingar?” she joked.

“me and Kerry met up in New York and when I heard the news I thought that I had to comes support her and see how you were” he told her smiling now just like everyone did in her presence. They spent the next few hour talking and catching up but after a while Niall said that he and his mom were going to go home if she wanted to come she was welcome but if she wanted to stay, to just call if she needed anything. As soon as they left Kerry fell asleep in her chair.

Kerry woke up the next morning to beeping and doctors rushing in. her mom had slipped into a comma. After more tears and the doctors leaving Niall came in.

“so how did Cara take the news?” Kerry asked trying to get her mind of the resent events.

“oh, thanks for reminding me, be right back” he said as he exited into the hallway. He came back in a few minutes later and told her she was cool with it. That night Niall decided that he would keep Kerry company and spent the night. They talked for a little but then Kerry fell silent, she couldn’t believe her mom could be gone at any minute. She stayed up the whole night worrying but decided to put her worrying to use while Niall slept, Kerry took his phone. Ever since he told her that she agreed to let him stay she knew something was wrong. She had known Niall for so long and his tone said something was wrong. Kerry opened his phone and checked his texts. She clicked on the folder with Cara’s name on it. As she looked through the texts she noticed that she actually had not agreed to let him stay she had told him that if he stayed that she would end the relationship. Kerry suddenly felt bad she was going to be the reason they broke up and she felt guilty. The last few comments that she read though made her think she could fix it.

After reading the texts she noticed one that said if we are over we need to do a cover shoot as a couple for a magazine first because they had promised to. Kerry had an idea she would make her forgive him.

Kerry woke up the next morning after falling asleep on the floor. She looked around and saw Niall with his mom and a doctor for her mom’s mid-morning check up. As she got up off the cold hard floor she heard somebody say something but in the morning grogginess she could not hear it clearly.

“what?” she asked shaking her head.

“good morning sleeping beauty is what I said” Mrs. Horan commented. 

“sorry I was just kind of groggy.” Kerry said

“no worries, here” she said handing her a yogurt. “Niall and I went to the food court and got you something. We thought you might be hungry, we haven’t seen you leave the room in days”

“thanks” she said as she slowly ate the yogurt, still on the floor. She was glad that she got some food because almost constant fainting, was getting hard to take.

“what time is it?” Kerry asked

“it is only 11 am, don’t worry you didn’t sleep to long.” Niall told her.

“any news?” Kerry asked

“no, the doctor who came earlier said she was likely to come out of the comma soon but they are not positive.” Niall’s mom said. The day continued on uneventfully, Kerry sat thinking and looking at her mom, Niall sat comforting her and thinking what he was going to do about Cara, Mrs. Horan came and went but normally to grab food from Niall and Kerry.

The next morning Kerry woke up to find Niall missing. She decided not to worry about it, and soon Niall walked in from the hall.

“good morning” Kerry said

“hey I have a question” Niall said

“yes?” Kerry was confused

“can Cara come we need to do a cover photo for a magazine in Dublin next week but if you don’t want her to come I can cancel the cover shoot.” Niall told her

“yes of course, I would love to meet her Louis said she was great” Kerry lied; it was true that she wanted to meet Cara but Louis sure did have plenty of complaints about her.

“ok great thanks, she will be here at o’clock I have her driving in a cab to the hospital and then we will see what happens after that.” Niall explained.
