Alex: I smell something fishy!

Ahhh...Sunday....the day when I get to relax and enjoy the day pretty much like a normal human being. Even the thought's making me drool! Well, here I am, on a perfect, bright, Sunday morning, stretched out on the small round couch on the roof, enjoying the beauty of Mesverville, sipping hot chocolate and reading my favourite story.

Honestly, I'm not even paying attention to the book as the view of  the town is way more interesting. It's probably five in the morning (yeah! I'm an early bird. Tweet tweet.) and I can feel the sun-rays  beginning to carress me. The town's just begun to stir. A few cycles race down the street. A lady jogs past our house, waving at me. I sit up and look at her. Oh wait! It's  Mrs. Jenson, our next-door neighboor (she can bake delicious titbits ). I smile and wave back.

A flock of birds soar through the clouds gracefully. Far away, I can see a range of  mountains glistening in the golden light.  It is shielded by a thick, dense forest at the foot, which marks the end of this town. The beginning of the forest is not that far from our house, though. The tiny beautiful shops are  just beginning to emanate their colours.

Hmm...maybe I can take my sister to the candy shop over there... but not now. Though I love my sister very much, right now, it's just me and my solitude.

You must probably be wondering, What the heck!!! Alex... go do your homework. Go fight ghosts. Go and study.

Nada Nada. Guess what? These Sundays are really precious for me. So I try my best to keep them lightweight and free. So... here's it. I have already completed my weekend's homework and I'll seriously murder you if you remind me 'bout murdering ghosts anymore. Sure, I'll study. Studying is something which I simply love. Call me a nerd if you will.

Anyway,  right now, the morning's lovely. Calm. Serene. Beautiful. I am gonna lean back, close my eyes and breathe in the fresh air.  What could go wrong on such a morning?

"Al! You're coming down and playing with meeeee! Yippee!" Charlotte sqealed into my ears.

    Right.

I jumped up with a start and dropped my mug with a clang. Thank God it's empty.
"Charlotte! You scared me." I made a frightened face.

She laughed and clapped her hands. "Alex is a scaredy-cat! Alex is a scaredy-cat!"

Seeing her laugh made me feel good. Like, for once, I could just forget about everything and just laugh my heart out. There would be nobody to criticise or joke... just me...laughing like my life depended on it. See, that's exactly why I love my sister so much. She's one of those rare people who are really great to hang out with. Good from the bottom of their hearts.

"Why brave girl! You're up early,"I ruffled her hair, "Have you brushed your teeth?"

Okay, that sounded dumb. Really dumb.

She rolled her eyes. "Al! You're sounding just like mommy. Of course I have brushed my teeth. I came up here to play with you because that's the only thing I want'a do right now." She pouted.
     I laughed. "Sure brave girl!"

She stuck out her tongue. "Scaredy-cat!"

I stood up. "Hmm... you've made scaredy-cat angry!Arghhh!" I raised my hands and ran towards her. She screamed and darted downstairs. I hauled myself after her, growling like a monster.  She squealed and ran inside my room.

"HERE I COME!" I screamed and ran after her. No sooner did I enter my room than a strange aroma greeted me. I stopped for a second and frowned slightly.  Before I could look around, Charlotte punched my arms. "Boohoo! I win!" She laughed.

"Hey! That's not fair!" I grabbed her by the waist and began tickling her. She was laughing hard and thrashing around. "Stop Al! Pl--ple-eeheehee-please stop-eeheehee!"

I let go. "And scaredy-cat wins!" I threw back my head and pretended to laugh triumphantly. Charlotte giggled.

"Hey, Cherry, do you want to go to-" The aroma was getting really intense. Almost suffocating. I breathed hard and looked around. It was so strong that even Charlotte was sniffing the air. This was not supposed to happen... because this fragrance was typical of...

Okay.Okay. NOT NOW AT LEAST.  NOT NOW.

And then I saw her.

At first, I was completely taken aback. Imagine a happy, normal day when you're playing with your sister and everything's too normal to be true and you suddenly notice a complete stranger frowning at you like she's just going to kill you, sitting on your bedroom windowsill.

What would you do? Be honest.

She was looking at me with intense, deep, dark doe-like eyes and though there was no wind blowing,  her ebony hair fluttered. With a  perfect  nose, a cute oval face and beautiful lips that were now pale, she was more than lovely.

   She was powerful.

I could sense the spicy smell of her aura (typical for all ghosts) that blended in with aromatic fragrances. As if, I had entered a garden filled with sweet smelling flowers. It was luring, tantalising. I wanted to go closer and dive in that radiating energy.

But she was a ghost. I knew it.
I took a step towards her, whispering, "W-who are you?"
She sat there, gazing at me...and then... fell.

Yep. Just leaned back and fell down from the window sill. Had it been some kind of a Show -your- macho-stunt competition, she would have definitely got the first prize.

" No! " I rushed towards the window and  peered down. Nope. Nobody there.

"Another ghost?" Cherry's voice was filled with concern.

I turned around and sighed. She was the only person who knew about my feelings for ghosts. How I never wanted to kill them and all.

"Cherry, just do me a favour, will you? Please don't tell anyone. ESPECIALLY, mom. Pleasy pleasy?"

She nodded gravely and then grinned. "I won't."

"Great! I promise I'll take you to the candy shop down the lane. As soon as I can." I ruffled her hair and patted her shoulder, before rushing down to the garden, right to the spot where she had fallen.

Fortunately, Mom was not there. Unfortunately, neither was she.
