The wind hits hard on my face as a sharp cry escapes my throat. My hands go up, waving frantically, trying to grasp onto anything that can save me.

Anything...

My heart thunders through my chest, screaming out for help.
My eyes sting as tears trickle down my warm cheeks.
I scan the crowd standing near the edge of the hill, where I had been standing a moment ago. The teachers have already run up to the spot, looking aghast. Miss Brown cups her mouth in horror.

All of my friends have huddled atop the hill, right near the rock from where I slipped.

A faulty accident.

I notice through my blurry eyes one particular figure making its way through the crowd. He's tall and well- built with perfectly tanned skin and blue eyes that look utterly shocked. A slim blonde girl has her arms around him in a comforting way. I shut my eyes as more tears threaten to spill down.

Chris...

Everything around me spins as I find myself reeling back to yesterday. A day that I won't forget. Neither here, nor when I'm on the other side of the grave.

The 17th of July.

I'm standing in front of the teacher's lounge, waiting. Miss Brown opens the door, stepping out with a sweet smile plastered on her face. She's the youngest teacher in Canadian YoungHearts High. She hands me the History paper, smiling. I mutter a thank you and check the paper.
Full marks with a smiley. Yeah, Miss Brown's a bit childish.

" Good results as usual, " she chirps, " Well, I hope you are excited for tomorrow's outing. "

I nod and smile.

I walk down the now-empty hallway to get my bag , humming my favourite song and thinking about my date with Chris tonight.

Chris Calden...the boy who could win every girl's heart with one dimpled smile of his. With a perfect tan, beach blonde hair, ocean blue eyes that spelled mischief and the body of an athlete, girls couldn't resist the charm called Calden.

I had never thought that he would ask me out. Although I was a pretty popular figure at CYH, but who would want to go out with some boring nerd? Yes, you guessed it right. I was popular for my brains... and to be honest, I didn't regret that.
C'mon, I'm just stating the facts. Wait till you hear the rest.

Most of the time, my conversations would turn towards studies. I'm sorry if I broke your heart out there, but Vogue magazines and glosses are so not me.

It had been a normal day, me- sitting at the cafeteria with my friends, reading a book, when all of a sudden, Chris had come over, rubbing the back of his neck, looking gorgeous as usual and asked me out.

In front of everyone.

Initially, I did think that it was a joke but as we began to spend time with each other, I totally put my guard down.

That first kiss, that first bike ride, that first outing together... even that first time when I sneaked out of my house at night to meet him up at the cemetery behind our school. It was frighteningly mesmerising.

I guess, 'firsts' always have a thing.

It's been only ten minutes since the dismissal bell's rung, but the building's already vacated.

I hear a giggle.
A whisper.
I look around. There's no one in sight.

The school is almost empty, except for the janitor lingering around to begin his daily schedule of cleaning and checking the building. For him, the tireless day's not over yet. Of course, there are the teachers in the lounge as well, talking , laughing and finding faults with our homeworks.
