Pearson’s POV

‘Alright boys… Ade,’ Johnson says his figure standing in front of us, but not. Kind of like a video on without the projector screen thingo, a real life ghostly coloured figure in front of us smiling back.

Oh the wonderful gadgets they have.

The five of us sat around on the couches as we watched Johnson sit on one of the chairs back home, still watching us, ‘tonight you all know the importance of catching this unknown guy. He will indeed have men with him in this meeting we know he will be holding. If ever you need help you know what to do. Carry weapons on you but do not make it noticeable so carry light and of course try not to kill; police are the last thing we need. Make sure to take care of the innocents and people around you and to evacuate them immediately if a fight is about to happen.’ He stands up and smiles.

‘Have fun, take care, do your job, and blend in. Use your last names and don’t give away who you are. Got it?’

We all stand up at that and did the salute thing but leaving it at our foreheads, ‘Yes sir!’ we all said simultaneously before throwing our arms out and slapping it at our sides.

‘Good luck,’ he says, ‘oh and listen to Ade, she knows the plan and I know she loves it, follow it boys; no questions asked,’ he says facing Ade and winking before he disappears through mid-air.

‘Absolutely,’ I hear her growl to herself quietly before throwing herself back on the couch, eyes drooping slightly as the morning sun starts to finally shine into the lounge room.

Kirk sits down beside her and the rest of us stayed standing, staring at her. ‘What’s the plan Ad?’ Kirk asks.

She sighs, ‘Before I left, Coldwell says that I’ll be the main for this one. Reckons that because our target is around my – or our – age he thinks he’ll take a liking in me, therefore I’ll be the only one who’ll get the closest to him without giving away our identity.’

‘What, so you have to fling yourself at him for this mission? Why can’t we do what we usually always do?’ Chris asks, annoyance in his voice and obviously loving the idea just as much as everyone else.

She opens her eyes and looks at him and I tried my best to hide my anger as well, but beside me I could see that Duke was calm and gave nothing away.

‘It’s the only way Chris, and I know you know that. From what I know this guy is powerful, he has a relationship with Sheeran and knows him, if they know each other there’s no doubt he’ll have men crawling around the joint. If we just come up to him and think we can have a little fight, knock him out and leave, then it’s useless.’

‘What would you know? You don’t know this guy! What if-!’ Chris starts again but she cuts him off after sitting up properly and shooting him a stern look, ‘I’ll be fine. You heard what Johnson said we have to follow the plan, it’s the only thing that makes sense right now and if you don’t like it too bad.’ She shoots back annoyance lacing her voice as she started to glare at him.

As much as I didn’t like the idea of her mixing with the bad guy I realised it kind of was a good idea. It was true and smart. But Ade…?

‘Ade…’ Kirk starts, getting involved again and sitting up as well, turning his body toward her.

‘Oh for goodness sake, I’m 19 not five!’ she glowers, crossing her arms across her chest and leaning back against the couch again with a slouch, reminding me of a five year old not getting their way.

Maybe I really should stay out of this one…

Everyone goes quiet and a heavy silence falls between us.
