Bella couldn't do this.
They spent the whole car ride in silence. They arrived at the fancy restaurant filled with humans and werewolves alike. No words were exchanged when they arrived, the hostess simply walked them over towards a table in the back. No one in the long line of hungry people opened their mouths to object.
Now, they were sitting at the table across from each other with silence suffocating the whole restaurant. Lucian had not once picked up his menu and his frown only deepened when Bella picked up hers. Her blue eyes would flicker up from her menu every now and then to stare into his brown orbs that were locked on her.
She couldn't take this silence anymore. She was so close to jumping on top the table and to scream out loud and pull her hair out. Her left eye twitched and her lips parted with the desire to spit out any random words she could think of.
"Can I start you off with something to drink?" The nervous waiter asked. Bella's mouth snapped shut. She hadn't even noticed him come up, but she's glad he did. She took in a moment to revel in the broken silence, feeling her body ease back into her chair. It was a moment Lucian took advantage of.
"We'll have two cokes and we can place our order now." The gruff voice from across Bella sounded. Hold up. Who said she wanted a coke and who said she was ready to order. She looked back at Lucian who had finally taken his eyes off her and was glaring at the waiter.
Said waiter quickly snatched out his notepad and diligently wrote as Lucian continued on with their order. He's either a mind reader that can also see into the future since Bella didn't know what she wanted or, more likely, a huge asshole.
"I'll have a steak. Rare. And she will have the apple harvest salad." Huge asshole it was. Not once did Lucian's eyes stray towards Bella as he ordered for her. The waiter nodded his head and hurriedly grabbed for the menus. Only, Bella didn't let her's go.
The waiter looked up to meet Bella's eyes and flinched away from the fire he saw there. He stood there frozen, slightly hunched over their table towards Bella. A small detail Lucian did not appreciate. His glare on the waiter became murderous and the poor man quickly stood back up straight. Turning his gaze away from the young scrawny man, Lucian's cold gaze met with Bella's fiery one.
"I haven't finished going through the menu yet." She managed to get out while grinding her teeth together. Then she placed a small smile on her face and turned to the waiter, whose hands were shaking as he gripped his notepad. "I'll need just a few more minutes if you wouldn't mind coming back then."
The waiter looked at Bella for a moment before switching his gaze towards Lucian. Her mate was glowering at them with his teeth bared in a subtle way. Bella was pushing his temper to the limit in a very public, very human inhabited place. His glare alone was enough to tell the waiter to put their orders in now.
"Just a few minutes." Bella kindly told him. Hesitantly, he nodded his head and scurried off before he could catch a glimpse of Lucian's face.
Once again they were consumed by silence, but unlike before, danger was lurking in the air. Bella looked back down at her menu and debated between the burger or the pasta. The restaurant was pretty nice so she figured pasta was the more fancy dish. A low growl came from across her and Bella's eyes flickered up to catch the stony face of her mate. His teeth were barred still and his fist on the table was turning white. Let's hope he's not picturing strangling Bella with that hand right now.
