"Wha-" Bella boggled at the back of her mate's head as he pulled her along with him, "What does that even mean?"
He stole a glance back at her with his stony face. His stride never slowing down to accommodate his struggling mate.
"An omega is a-"
"I know what a fricken Omega is. I meant what was your point?" Bell tried to twist her hand out of his grip but he would only tighten her hold. None the less, she continued to struggle, even if she had to dislocate her wrist. You can dislocate your wrist right?
"My point is she is beneath you." Bella stopped struggling for a moment and just stared at him. As the sun frolicked in his soft brown hair and the muscles in his strong arms grew taunt, she felt her heart flutter. How could someone so beautiful be so ugly?
"We never treated Omegas like this in my old pack." Her heart seemed to swell with pride from that fact. Even if she the thought of her home sent a pang of sadness throughout her body.
When Lucian didn't bother to keep the conversation going, Bella felt her heart sink. Her pale blue eyes shifted to the street below them as they walked, well, more like he marched and she was dragged.
"Lucian," Bella's fragile voice called out. He turned his head slightly so he could watch her from the corner of his eye, but also watch where he was leading them. "You and I are just too different." Bella's always known this, but what she doesn't know is why she feels like crying right now.
Lucian had stopped walking and turned to face Bella completely. He studied her sullen face and timid body before his own face morphed into something akin to fear. He waited, knowing she had more to say.
"There's no point to me staying here. We're never going to be together." Her voice crackled on the last word. She cleared her throat while avoiding his piercing stare. She was not going to cry over this. She was screaming these same things to his face last week. What was different? She still hated him... Right? Well, she definitely didn't like him.
This mate bond was poisoning her mind. She was incapable of creating realistic feelings towards him. She should hate him. The brute stole her from her home and locked her up while threatening her loved ones. Why does she feel like she has to scarifies her heart to leave him? She expected maybe a limb or two would have to go, but never her heart.
Lucian stayed silent as he watched her, but for once in their relationship, the silence spoke volumes. His eyes bore desperation. His body strained to keep itself from encompassing her smaller body in his, settling for just grasping her hand.
"Don't leave me." His hoarse voice broke as a gentle breeze swept past the pair. The stupid wind must be stinging her eyes or something. There was no way Bella was about to cry over this. She should laugh in his face and walk away. She should yell at him and scream and fight and kick and- and...
"You're making me." She whispered. Her body felt like it was crumbling. This was all wrong. She knew that logically she shouldn't care. She knew in her mind that he deserved nothing from her. Why couldn't her body and emotions get on the same page as her mind?
Lucian's beautiful brown eyes held hers. She loved the smooth color smeared with strands of gold and honey. She always associated brown with gross things. If only she could continue that trend now. Maybe then this wouldn't hurt her so much.
As they continued to stare into each other's eyes, Bella felt the air change. No longer was their silence crackling with emotions. No longer was his eyes desperate to hold her. No longer was his face marred by distress. He was cold.
