Skylar's POV
I woke up early on Tuesday and walked over to my closet. Instead of going for all of the new clothes I had just bought, I stuck with something more simple. After doing a natural makeup look, I grabbed my bag and walked to my car. First hour flew by and Sammy didn't even bother talking to me.
When I reached second hour, I saw Danny sitting in his regular seat smiling at me. "Ah, Danny, nice to see you in class extremely early as always." He shot me a shy smile and rubbed the back of his neck. I sat down so I was facing him, because Sammy was already sitting in his seat.
"I just like to get here early so I can see your gorgeous smiling face walk in." He winked at me causing me to blush. I heard Sammy scoff behind me, which made me roll my eyes. The only thing that stopped me from shooting him a smart comment was the bell ringing.
I looked Danny in the eyes and gave him a sweet smile. "So, what do you say me and you go get that coffee after school today. I could meet you at the Starbucks on main?" He nodded his head, before turning to listen to the teacher. When I turned to face the front, I saw Sammy had tensed up.
The day flew by, contrary to previous days. Driving myself to Starbucks, I walked in and ordered my favorite drink. Once I got my drink, I sat down and played on my phone waiting for Danny. He walked in 5 minutes later and smiled when he saw me. After he ordered his drink, he sat across from me.
For a minute or two, we just sat smiling at each other. Finally he cleared his throat. "So," he started, "how have you been? I mean after Friday and then the forever changing wardrobe." I laughed at his description even though the mention of Friday stung a little.
I took a sip of my coffee and shrugged. "I'm actually great. Never been so relieved and I mean, I'm leaving for college in a couple of weeks, so I'll be leaving him behind." He looked surprised at the sound of college and then nodded his head.
"Yeah, I guess graduation is in 2 weeks. Sometimes I forget how close we are to being done with this part of our life." As though to get him out of his thoughts, he shook his head and looked back at me. "So where do you plan on going to college and what for?"
"Anchorage, Alaska. It's got one of the best nursing programs in the country and that's exactly what I want. Plus it's far enough away from this shit town to get a fresh start." Danny glanced up at me and smiled softly. "What's wrong? You seem off," I asked.
"Well, I don't know," he muttered, "I asked you on a date and now you're talking about leaving so I doubt we'll ever become something. And I guess that's life." His voice got quieter as he kept talking and I sat silently. I reached my hand across the table and gave him a smile. He glanced up at me, before taking a sip of his coffee.
"I didn't say this wouldn't work. Trust me, I want something like this to work. But I really need to pursue this nursing thing, cause this is where I see the rest of my life. But I say we try this out, I don't leave for a 6 weeks anyways." When I said that, his face lit up and I was glad I found someone happy to be with me.
The rest of the date we spent talking about life dreams and what we planned on doing this summer. At around 6 we finally said goodnight and went our separate ways. When I got home, my parents were sitting at the table and it looked like my mom had actually cooked. "Okay, this is new. What is this for?"
My parents shared a look, before turning their attention back to me. My mom cleared her throat before talking. "Well, we decided we haven't been the best parents these past few years, and we lose you to college in a month in and a half so we want to make the best of it." She finished talking and they both just looked at me.
I stared at them in disbelief and just scoffed. "So you're telling me you're basically gonna be nonexistent parents for 8 years of my life, then as soon as you realize you're going to lose you're other kid, you decide you want to be a parent. Yeah, okay, I really don't want to do this," I stated. Without another word, I stormed off to my room and throw myself on my bed. You've got to be kidding me.
