I never thought I'd say this, but I'm so glad school is finally over. The last two days passed like a breeze and since Sammy and I started dating again, I had someone to talk to.
Thankfully, I had taken my senior pictures before school started, so I didn't have to worry about that. Graduation was today, and I was so excited. Sammy was going to pick me up before, and my parents would meet me there.
When Sammy finally got there, I ran down the stairs and yelled a quick goodbye to my parents. "Hey, babe, ready for this?"
"You bet," Sammy said. "I've been waiting to get out of there since I got in." I rolled my eyes at him, as we drove down the road.
"Sam, I know we never talked about this, but what are your plans after high school? What's going to happen to us?" I think he could hear the dismay in my voice, because he hesitated.
"Well, before we got back together, I honestly had no plans. I was going to wing it and see where the wind took me. But now, I know I'm going to go with you, we're going to live together while you do college, and I will happily support you through it all."
He gave me a goofy grin and rested his hand on my thigh. "Are you serious, though? Because you had to have had a plan you wanted to follow through with," I remarked.
"Nope, just to get you back into my life somehow," he stated confidently.
I playfully slapped my arm, before resting my head on his shoulder. He pulled into the school and parked the car. We sat in pin drop silence, not wanting to break it.
"Well, this is it. This is the first day into the rest of our lives," I finally broke in. "Let's do this."
I opened the car door and climbed out, while Sammy walked around to join me. Making our way to the football field where graduation would attend, we ran into a bunch of people we'd grown up with.
After we had talked for a bit, everyone went and got into their places, and the ceremony began. Since our class was absolutely huge, it took forever for them to get to mine and Sammy's names.
When they finally called my name, I stood up and walked over to grab my diploma. I did it, not top of my class unfortunately, but I did it. They called Sammy's name right after I had started walking back to my seat, and the principle exchanged a few words with him before they both laughed and he walked back.
He grabbed my hand after he settled in, and we sat there the rest of the time names were called. I almost fell asleep during the valedictorian speech, but Sammy sat there poking fun at him the whole time.
Finally we got through it, and we got to the part of tassel moving. "Sammy, I can't believe we did it together. 13 years later." He smirked at me.
"Yah, it only took 13 years for you to fall head over heals for me," he whispered. I gasped and hit him softly.
"Not funny," I muttered.
He shrugged it off, right as we turned tassels. Right after, we threw our hats up, and Sammy grabbed me and pulled me into a kiss. Perfection is the only word I can think.
After we both pulled away, we ran to find my parents and I gave them a hug. My parents were excited when I had told them I fixed my relationship with Sammy.
"Hey, Sammy, I want to go see him. I wanna tell him that I did it and that I did it for him. I think I'm ready to finally visit him," I whispered in his ear. He nodded and grabbed my hand pulling me towards the door.
It didn't take us long to get there, and when we did, I asked Sammy if I could have a time with him alone. When I got over to him, I sat down on the grass and stared at his headstone.
"Hey, there little bro. You always hated when I said that, because it was only a few minutes. What I would do to say it to your face again.
"You were right, though. Sammy and I ended up together after all. I know I haven't come and seen you in forever, but I couldn't before. I wasn't ready, but I am now."
I wiped away a tear before tracing my fingers over his name. "I did. I graduated for you. Wasn't top of my class like you swore it would be, but it was close. I leave for college next week, don't worry though, I'll come back for you.
"I should head back to Sammy now, but don't forget I love you. And also don't party to hard in heaven and don't forget about me," I joked, trying not to cry.
I stood back up and wiped off my dress, taking on last look at his headstone. It was so dull compared to the person he was. When I got back to Sammy, he wrapped his arms around me and walked with me back to the truck.
The second we got to my house, we both walked upstairs and passed out in my bed. A great way to end high school.
