“I think I’m officially deaf,” Autumn said as they made their way out the back door of the store where the signing had been held.
“I guess I should test your hearing then,” Louis said pulling her away to the side and whispering into her ear. Harry laughed as Autumn blushed and swatted Louis on the head. “Her hearing is just fine Hazza!” Louis shouted back to him. Autumn still walked around with a major chip on her shoulders, but she hadn’t complained too much during the signing event.
“I just don’t get what Louis sees in her,” Niall said as he came to a stop next to Harry. He watched along with Harry as Louis tried to persuade Autumn to hop onto his back for a piggy back ride.
“They’re just friends,” Harry said.
“Sure they are Hazza,” Niall said sarcastically. “Either way it’s hard to imagine how Louis could put up with her.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Because she’s the dragon lady,” Zayn said popping into the conversation. “I think she actually growled at one of the girls who was in line today.”
“She’s probably just nervous,” Liam said joining in. “A big crowd like that can be intimidating.”
“But it’s not just her attitude,” Niall said.
“Yeah,” Zayn agreed. “The girl doesn’t know anything about us. I don’t think she’s ever heard a single song of ours. How is it going to look if your stepsister doesn’t even know a single One Direction song?”
“You’re just mad that she said Joe Jonas had better hair,” Harry joked.
“He does not,” Zayn pouted crossing his arms over his chest. “And I didn’t appreciate her humming the lyrics to ‘Paranoid’ behind me the entire time.” [AN: I was at work scanning stuff, and I caught myself humming ‘I Should Have Kissed You.’ My manager walked into the workroom and was like, “are you singing?” Totally mortified.]
“I am not riding on your back Louis,” Autumn called out racing back over to them. “Where is the van?”
“It should have been back here,” Liam said looking around. “Louis, did you call the company we rent our vehicles from?”
“I will now!” Louis said pulling out his phone. Everyone else sighed.
“Why on Earth did you trust him to be in charge of even the simplest task?” Autumn asked.
“He’s the oldest,” Liam said. “How hard is it to remember to call?”
“Immensely hard for Louis,” Niall said with a chuckle.
“They’ll be here soon!” Louis said hanging up and looking around them. “Boo-bear, where did Autumn go?”
“She’s right he—“Harry broke off as he realized Autumn had disappeared. “Where did she go?”
“Well we can’t stand here wondering,” Louis said dramatically. “We must find Princess Autumn and rescue her!” The boys all trotted behind Louis as he dashed around the corner of the building. They all stopped in their tracks as they saw Autumn squatting in front of two young girls talking to them gently.
“Oi, Autumn!” Zayn shouted. “Why did you run off?” Autumn stood and shot Zayn a menacing glare. Niall laughed as Zayn cowered behind him.
“I didn’t run off,” Autumn said. “I said I heard some crying so I came to investigate. It’s not my fault none of you were listening to me.”
