Love is identified as a terrible disease, as well as an illegal act. To even speak of the word is a misdeed. But, fourty-three years ago, scientists perfected a cure for such a sickness, that takes away the ability to love. An "evaluation" is done on an individual before the actual cure is given to determine the person's future spouse, or commonly known as a "match." This usually takes place when one is eighteen years of age. After the evaluation, there is a chosen date for the individual's cure.
-
Jeon Jungkook has been counting down to, and anticipating the day of his evaluation. It will be performed on his eighteenth birthday, which is just a day away.
-
"Wake up, Jungkook, you have to get ready for your evaluation. Also, happy birthday!"
Junghyun, Jungkook's older brother, slightly shook the younger to wake him. Jungkook groaned in a lazy manner, not wanting to leave the comfort of his bed despite awaiting the evaluation.
"C'mon, I already made you breakfast."
With that statement Jungkook gained the strength to fully wake up and get ready for the day.
"What did you make?"
Jungkook questioned, secretly hoping it was eggs and bacon.
"Only your favorite, eggs and bacon."
"Yes! You really are the best, hyung-"
Junghyun laughed lightly at the younger's adorable reaction.
"Thank you- now as much as I would like to sit here and listen to you give me compliments, you need to get ready. I'll meet you in the kitchen, okay?"
Jungkook nodded once before he was left in his room to prepare for the upcoming day. He trodded to his closet to pick an outfit, deciding on a simple white t-shirt and jeans. After changing, he made his way to the bathroom to freshen up. He glanced at himself in the mirror, noticing small pieces of black strands sticking out from the mop of his hair. He always used water to press down the upstanding strands and fix the overall "mop." When concluding that his appearance looked decent, Jungkook stepped out of the bathroom and walked into the kitchen to meet his brother.
"I'm here-"
Jungkook called, turning to meet Junghyun by the dining table.
"Great, now let's eat, I'm actually starving."
-
The boys eat peacefully, recalling their best memories together. Junghyun didn't want to break the joyful atmosphere, but he felt he had to say some touching words to the younger.
"I know it's not really like me to talk like this, but I have to say this now that you're eighteen..."
Jungkook was curious, but he also felt a hint of anxiety. His brother was right, he never spoke to him in such a soft, delicate manner. Junghyun didn't want to talk to him like that, because he felt he was the protecter of the two, and he needed to be tough. But nonetheless, Jungkook needed to know what he was going to say.
"Taking care of you for basically your entire life, I've seen you grow up a whole lot. You've become a fine man, your match will be a lucky girl, Jungkook. And I'm glad you turned out to be such a responsible person, not like any of those teenagers falling in love. You have really made me so proud."
Jungkook knew he made the older happy, but he had no idea it was to this extent. He became glad to physically hear how his brother felt about him.
"Thanks, Junghyun, I had no clue you thought that about me."
Junghyun nodded with a light smile across his lips.
"Yeah, I wanted to tell you before your cure, since it could literally be anytime after your evaluation- which reminds me, we should probably get going if we want to get there at a reasonable time."
Jungkook grinned slightly, remembering the evaluation.
"Of course, I can't wait."

hey friendos !! thanks for coming aboard the taekook train, it's gonna be wild lemme tell you
now i know this concept might be a little confusing because there is a lot of info to take in about the story (for those who dont know this story is based off a book called Delirium by Lauren Olivers) but basically heres the concept of the story without giving anything away:
-its a distopian society where love is not accepted, basically if you love someone here then people think you're diseased and commiting a crime
-an "evaluation" is a procedure done before the cure, it is just a questionnaire to decide a future spouse, i guess they rank it on whoever matches the closest, thats why its called a "match," they're also always opposite sexes
-a "cure" is the actual procedure that will take away the ability to love, the date for the cure is given after the evaluation bc they base it on how well your evaluation went, by that i mean if someone seems like a potential threat (they love someone) based on their evaluation then the date will be sooner
-jungkook looks forward to the evaluation bc he cant wait to get the date for his cure, in other words, he doesn't want to love, and he doesn't like the idea of love (so like basically most people there)
i think thats everything i mentioned so far, hopefully that helps if you're confused
other than that i guess ill say farewell for now and ill see you in the next chapter !!
