chapter two

Mackenzie POV
"mackenzie, why are you so antisocial?" maddie barges into my room and asks me as i lay on my bed and stare at my phone.
"go away maddie," i mumble as i scroll through my instagram feed. "don't you have a life?"
"why don't you do something?" she says, putting her hands on her hips and ignoring my question. "you could go to starbucks, call lauren, hang out with your boyfriend-"
i turn to face maddie and give her the wtf look.  "my boyfriend?"
"duh! johnny!"
"johnny is NOT my boyfriend."
"okay, well, you sure act like it. you two are constantly flirting with each other anyway!"
"we don't flirt!"
"oh come on. i talked to laur yesterday and 'just friends' don't lay on the bed and tickle each other." she smirks.
i groan. remind me to kill lauren.
"maddie, we'll never be more than just friends. i've known him forever, and i don't like him. so GO AWAY!"
maddie sighs and sits down.
"look kenz, i know i annoy you all the time and you definitely annoy me-" i roll my eyes, "but i'm your sister. and you can tell me anything. and I won't make fun of you, unless it's super embarrassing, and I will listen to you and give you advice. So just remember that I'll always be there for you. Now is there anything you want to tell me about Johnny?"
"it's just, he's my best friend Maddie, and I have it on good authority that i'm a dumb ass (a/n: creds to that 70s show again, i'm not obsessed you are) and i feel like i'll screw things up like always. and I don't even know if I like him in that way, So I don't know if anything will happen anyways. But if something happened to our friendship, whether we dated or not, then i wouldn't know what to do. And maybe I don't like him. Maybe I just want someone right now. And if that's the case then I don't want to use a good guy like Johnny for that. so over all, I'm just confused. but i can't imagine my life without johnny in it, and i don't want to either."
i take a second to realize all of the things i said.
"wow," maddie says quietly.
i look up at her expectantly. "so, um, i could use some advice please?"
"well kenz, just keep hanging out with him. If you start to get feelings for him, then you'll know. If you don't, then you can still stay good friends."
with that, maddie walked out of my room and shut my door.
i smashed a pillow onto my face and muttered, "ugh."
Johnny POV
i had been lazy in my room all day, watching tv and getting on my phone. I finally left my room because I was about to starve. What a beautiful day... To see Lauren and Hayden making out in the kitchen. i threw a pillow from the couch at them and they finally pulled away.
"having fun?" i ask, grabbing an apple from the fridge.
"shut up johnny," lauren mutters and walks upstairs to her room.
"hey man, at least I'm getting some action. When are you going to make your move on kenzie?" hayden asks.
"my what?" i look at him confused.
he looks at me like i grew three new arms.
"you know. when are you going to stop just flirting and actually ask her out?"
"i'm not going to."
"why not?"
"because i-" i stutter. "she's my best friend."
"so? lauren's my best friend and i still like her. in fact, being best friends beforehand is a definite reason to like her."
"whatever."
"john."
"hayden."
"say you don't like her."
"you don't like her."
"you are the worst person ever." hayden rolls his eyes and turns around.
while hayden looks through our fridge and probably eats all our food, my phone buzzes and I pick it up.
kenzie😜: heyyy
me: hey kenz what's up
kenzie😜:  nothing much, i'm bored wanna hang?
i smile. wait, why am i smiling?
me: sure, want me to tell lauren?
kenzie😜: no, then she'll bring hayden and they'll suck face the whole time.
i laugh. she is so my best friend.
me: true true. want to go bowling? i haven't beaten you since we were kids and i feel like winning tonight.
kenzie😜: shut up you little shit. get ready to take the L!
me: whatever you need to tell yourself, champ. i'll pick you up at...
kenzie😜: 7. don't be late or it's an automatic win for me.
me: shut up, you know i'm always on time.😎
kenzie😜: sure you are. now take a shower right now because you probs smell bad.
i smell my armpit. she's right.
me: yes, almighty queen. whatever you say.
kenzie😜: shut up and go!
i laugh again and run upstairs to shower. finally! a chance to hang out with kenz and figure out my feelings towards her.
