A/N: Sorry I haven't been updating in so long guys! My summer is free, but I just had to say goodbye to some important people in my life (college does that to you XD) I wanted to spend as much time with them as possible! So I rarely had time to update, and I wanted my chapters to be well thought out and written and not some sloppy update for the sake of updating! Anyway, enjoy this chapter, and again, sorry for the slow updates!
"The whole town hates your dad, Jughead, it's dangerous for you,"
How could she think she could walk all the way back to the town center with no shoes. If she was walking on pavement it would be easier, but Betty Cooper was walking through the ground of the Riverdale woods next to the worlds most dangerous criminal's son, Jughead Jones.
She couldn't let him see that she was in pain from constantly stepping on twigs and sharp branches, he might take her back to the trailer. Determination made her swallow the pain, she was going to get back to her house. He was walking close behind, not really paying much attention to her. It seemed as if Jughead was in his own state of mind. He was usually like that at school. The strange silence and tension was bothering Betty. Huffing out a breath of air she glanced at Jughead, who picked up a twig and snapped it in half.
"So, what now?" She asked.
Jughead furrowed his eyebrows, "what do you mean?" He wasn't sure what she was trying to say, then again, he didn't understand any girl.
"Well you're the son of the most dangerous criminal in Riverdale, and I'm the daughter of the self proclaimed mayor," Betty laughed out, even to her the games their families played were silly sounding.
He stopped, threw the stick on the ground and grabbed her by the shoulders, "we are not our parents, Betty. What now? Well, now you do whatever the hell you want."
Letting her go, he continued walking. Betty was left dumbfounded in the middle of the forest, Jughead two steps ahead of her. She was barefoot. The leaves crunched underneath her feet. Betty was in the most unpredictable situation, yet she'd never felt more free. She could do anything she wanted in this moment, her parents no longer held her strings like she was a puppet.
Betty turned around in a swift motion, her hair loose in the wind and in her face, she forgot to put it up in her famous pony tale, "what if I want you?"
Jughead smirked, he wasn't confident in himself although he seemed to be, a part of him was surprised from her out burst. "Look," he turned to face her, "if you're just looking for some weird rush of adrenaline because your daddy doesn't allow you to be with bad boys, forget it."
She stumbled on a branch as she tried to go to him and he reached out his hand for her to grab, "I don't want some rush of adrenaline! I'm different Jughead, and so are you. I'm tired of people telling me what I'm supposed to do, how I'm supposed to act, who I should be with."
He smirked, she didn't quite understand the "different" life he was living, "Betty, once you go Jones you never go back. My mother suffered those consequences."
Shaking her head, Betty looked him in the eyes, "you said we are not our parents."
"You're right, I did say that." Jughead looked down at the forest ground, "let's get you home first and then you can interrogate me."
They walked in silence, even though both of them felt uncomfortable. Betty wanted to desperately say something, perhaps even ask something. Jughead wanted to point out everything he saw, but he knew that he couldn't talk to her freely just yet.
When they finally got to the main highway and Jughead saw the roofs of their small town, he stopped in his tracks. He wasn't going to leave Betty and make her walk all the way home without him, but he was scared to go back into town. The Serpents caused chaos, and he was the son of their leader.
"You don't have to come with me," Betty took Jughead by the hand, "I can go on my own from here."
He shook his head, refusing, "I'm not going to leave you in the middle of a highway, barefoot."
"The whole town hates your dad, Jughead, it's dangerous for you," she protested.
Jughead started walking towards the town, "does it look like I care if they hate me or not. I care about you Betty, and I'm not leaving you."
As flattered as she was, Betty was genuinely afraid for him. Her fears increased when she saw a familiar red-head make his way towards them. They were barely in Riverdale, but like strange fate they bumped into Archie Andrews, the local celebrity superstar.
The second Archie saw Betty he ran towards her, taking off his blue and yellow football team jacket and draping it over Betty's shoulders. He saw who she was with, but he chose to ignore Jughead.
"Betty, are you alright?" Archie sounded concerned, "is he bothering you?" He continued with a whisper.
Glancing at Jughead Betty shook her head, "no, not at all. He was helping me."
"Right," Archie doubted Jughead's intentions, "look I can take you home now, Jughead can leave."
"No that's okay I-" Jughead started to speak up, but he was cut off by Betty.
"He's right Jughead, you should go. It's dangerous for you to be in town right now, Archie can help me." She nodded her head.
Jughead sighed, "Betty I'm not leaving you-"
"Please, Jughead!" She pleaded. Of course, he knew she was trying to look out for him, but he couldn't help but feel like she had to choose between him and Archie. Betty Cooper chose Archie Andrews, at least that's how it seemed to Jughead at that point. With a hint of sadness in his blue eyes, Jughead didn't look back at Betty and the town's superstar. He walked off back into the woods. Back to his side of the tracks, back to the place where everyone thought he belonged and hoped he would stay. Somehow, every time someone looked at Jughead it was like they saw his father instead. For that they would never forgive him.
