"Jughead is anything but normal"

She hadn't slept. Betty stared at the same ceiling in her room for hours, thinking over and over again about her life. The reason for her sleepless night was Archie Andrews. She didn't know whether to tell him that she's liked him for the longest time or just to ignore her feelings again. If she had her will, Betty would let her hair down out of her ponytail and sweep him off his feet. She could be dangerous too, she could be anything he was looking for in Veronica Lodge, and even more.

The alarm rang and she automatically stopped it. Getting up on her feet Betty looked at her tired face in the mirror. Not sleeping was a bad idea, but how could she when her brain restlessly kept thinking of Archie. The ginger boy never left her mind since she was 7. It's been eleven years, but Betty still couldn't get the courage to tell him of her feelings. Perhaps it was for the better. She was overthinking everything again.

Putting her hair up into a tight ponytail, Betty smiled as widely as she could at herself. Her pink sweater was already out on the chair to put on with the rest of her clothes. The same poisonous colors haunted her every day, she was dying for a change. Breakfast wasn't any better. Pancakes with a single strawberry on top, like always. Her mother put the plate of food in front of her and smiled. The plate was spotless as if the syrup on top of her pancakes was too afraid to dirty one of Alice Cooper's perfect dishes.

"Remember to talk to coach after school about cheerleading, you will have to miss practice on Wednesday because of dad's speech, and come straight back home, and-"

"Mom!" Betty interrupted her mother with a smile, "I know, you've told me multiple times yesterday."

Mrs. Cooper smiled and kissed her daughter's forehead, "I just don't want you to forget."

"I won't." Betty ate her pancakes quickly and put her lunch in her backpack. The bus was almost at her house and she rushed out to not miss it. Waving goodbye to her parents was a habit already. When she got on the bus and sat down near the window that was on the opposite side of where her house was her true colors showed. Betty was sad, and she had been for months now. Nothing was able to cheer her up, not even Archie's silly expressions as he tried to make her laugh. She used to love them, but now she was immune to them.

The red haired boy sat next to her and put his hand around her shoulders, "hey Betty good morning."

He always put his arms around her, maybe there was hope for them to be together, "hey there Archie."

Archie started telling her about last nights football training and how his team was winning. Betty zoned out and looked through the window as the bus started to move. To no surprise the day was cloudy and the sky threatened to rain. Betty didn't mind, however, it accurately represented her mood.

When she realized that Archie was still telling her something the bus stopped and everyone started to get off. Today was going to be the same boring and perfect day. Betty prayed that something different would finally happen.

Betty and Archie were joined by Veronica who just arrived in her car. She put her arms around her friends and started telling them about how different the day was going to be, but Betty knew that there was nothing different about this day at all. Her eyes went wondering to different sides of the school building.

Resting his dark demeanor on the red brick wall of the school building stood Jughead Jones, the school's hated boy. Betty didn't know him, she only knew of him. His eyes were blue, but there was something dark in them like his hair. His crown shaped beanie he used to always wear was in his hands instead. Betty thought that if anything was different about this day it was the fact that Jughead was not wearing his beanie for a few minutes. She looked at him and he looked back. It was a momentary glance, but Betty needed it. As if staring at him made her seem a little more daring than she actually was. For everyone else it was a death sentence. He looked away and so did she. One of his buddies handed him a sheet of paper which looked like classwork. Betty still could see what was happening from the side.

"Are you insane!?" Betty received a smack on the back of her head by Veronica.

"Ouch!" She rubbed her head.

Veronica rolled her eyes, "I saw you looking at Jefferson or whatever his name is, didn't you know that his mom was a gypsy and he can put some sort of spell on you!"

Betty rolled her eyes with a smile, "his name is Jughead and those are just stupid rumors. He's just a normal boy."

"Jughead is anything but normal," Archie laughed.

Somehow it made Betty feel uncomfortable that her friends were making fun of Jughead. Not that she liked him or even knew him, but the idea of them judging someone by what others say sickened her. Betty hung her head and continued to listen to their comments as she walked to her locker. If she could only be like him, not be afraid of showing who she truly was perhaps her friends wouldn't even be her friends. Of course, she had to always remind herself that being plane old Betty Cooper was better than being part of the Southside Serpents.

A/N: So chapter one! What do you think? I know Archie and Veronica seem like jerks right now but have no fear! There will be more of a character development with them! Anyway, thank you for reading! Please vote and comment! Comments always make me happy.
