Jughead slammed the trailer door to let his father know that he was back. Of course, he was met by an embrace, but Jughead quickly pulled away.
"Dad, Betty is in trouble," he said quickly.
FP sighed, "what is it with you kids getting each other in trouble. I know. Alice is working on freeing her."
"Not fast enough, I got word that Rat's crew wants revenge and now that they know she's in prison, they're coming for her," his voice was shaky and full of worry.
Again, FP sighed, "what do you want me to do?"
"We need to get our people there, we need to bust her out!" Jughead was interrupted by his fathers laughter.
"Are you listening to yourself, son, busting her out is going to make her a criminal. Besides, the serpents are not going to listen to you, they only listen to the king." FP sat down on the couch, putting his fingers to his chin, thinking about the consequences of his sons rage.
Jughead was frustrated with his dad not wanting to help, "exactly, you're the king, tell them-"
"Jughead," FP interrupted him, "I was thinking about it, and there are a lot of things I did wrong with the serpents. We could have stopped Rat, we could have stopped the guy who kidnapped Betty as a kid, but we didn't. We didn't because our only rule was to never go against our own, well the rule needs to change. Lines need to be set. A new king needs to rise."
Jughead listened in silence as his father talked, afraid to say something. He didn't care about the serpents anymore, all he cared about was freeing Betty from the horrible holding cell until Rat's guys get to her.
"I know about Rat's people, and I know what they're going to do. Betty won't defend herself, she can't. I will lead the serpents, I will take the blame, and I will give you the mantel," FP said.
"No, dad, you can't take the blame for everything!" Jughead said, shaking his head, "there has to be another way."
FP smiled, "you know, your mother said that you'd be the end of me if I give you the life of a criminal, all I can hope for is that you will be better than me." He put his hand on Jughead's shoulder, "I will make this right, son, meanwhile, why don't you go talk to the serpents."
FP Jones knew what he had to do that night, he had to pass the mantel onto someone else, someone who can be trusted. He himself had to fix something he should have a long time ago. So, FP Jones went to the house he had always avoided for his entire life, the Coopers house. He knocked on the door and waited for Hal, the mayor candidate, to open the door. Alice Cooper opened the door instead, ready to shut it in front of his face, but he didn't let her, as he held the door opened.
Looking intensely at her, Alice understood that FP did not come to harm them, on the other hand something in his eyes let her know that in fact he was there out of the last goodness of his heart. Alice hated FP, she hated him for letting one of his gang members steal her child as a baby, and she hated him for turning his back on the town, but she couldn't help but trust him. Perhaps it was because Alice herself was desperate.
That night, as Betty sat on the bed of her cell, awaiting her fateful destiny, she heard some people walking towards her and the jiggling of keys. She could not be in such luck that the sheriff decided to pardon her in the middle of the night, so she swallowed her fears and stood up.
"Is this Betty Cooper?" A man who approached her cell asked.
The cop, that was held at gun point with a bunch of keys in his hand nodded his head, "yeah, that's her."
"You are hard to find," the man laughed, "miss Cooper. Open it."
The cop complied and opened the cell door. As he did so, the man who was holding him at gun point instantly shot him and he fell in front of Betty, right at her feet.
She didn't scream, just closed her eyes in shock as some of the blood sprinkled on her. The man grabbed her and pulled her out of the cell, "you have done something you shouldn't have young lady, you killed our boss, and you play for blood with blood."
Betty didn't answer him, she just stared into his cold eyes, hating that the last pair of eyes she would see were his and not Jughead's.
"Nothing left to say? Good, prepare to meet your maker," he smiled and looked over at his friends.
Betty shut her eyes as he put the gun that just killed that innocent cop up to her head.
"I don't think so," a voice said behind them.
The man turned around, "FP Jones, in the flesh? And why are you interrupting justice? You're the serpent king, you know how this goes."
FP laughed, "yeah, I made the rules, but you boys aren't serpents, serpents do things with honor, killing some girl? That's pathetic."
The man lowered his gun, "what do you propose?"
"Fight, one on one, you, me, my men, your men." FP walked up closer to him, "let's do it the way we do it, not this executioner bullshit."
The man faced FP, "okay Jones, you ready to give up your kingdom for some girl? Be my guest. Outside in five minutes." The man let Betty go and threw her into FP's arms.
She looked at him with gratitude, but also confusion, "why are you doing this?"
"Better than Jughead doing this, am I right?" He smiled, "now kid, listen to me, you take care of my boy, you let nothing bad happen to him."
"No, I am not letting you die for me," Betty shook her head.
FP smirked, "as flattered as I am, no one is dying tonight, now go!" He handed her his car keys.
Betty rushed past the rest of the other Serpents and to FP's car that was parked outside. All of the cops at the main desk were dead, and she felt terrible for their families, like anywhere she went a little bit of chaos was left. Betty got into the car, realizing that she didn't even know how to drive, but she did not care, she watched her dad enough of times. The adrenaline that kicked her was strong and she drove directly to the trailer park.
She didn't know how to park perfectly so she stopped the car in the middle of the trailer park, attracting the attention of all the serpents. Running to the Jones trailer with all her speed, Betty banged on the door. Jughead quickly opened up and was met by her in shock. He quickly embraced her, picking her up.
"Betty, how-" He asked, but she cut him off before he could question her in his disbelief
"Nevermind how, we have to go back, we have to help your dad!" She pulled him to the car.
