FP Jones fell on the ground, his shoulder hurt like hell from the bullet that just grazed it. Rat's gang was not playing by rules, one of them had a gun. Automatically one of the serpents tackled the guy with the gun to the ground, protecting their king.

"You're too old for this, Jones, give up." Their leader said, the one who wanted to kill Betty earlier.

FP stood up, smirking as he did so, "I can't do that, not when you boys are disrespecting serpent ground and laws."

Running up to grab the gun that was on the floor, the gang leader didn't notice how a car drove up to the scene and Jughead jumped out of it in rage, his own gun in hand. He pointed it at the gang leader.

"No-" Betty yelled, I don't want anyone else to die tonight.

Jughead shook his head as he looked at the man who was crawling on the floor, "you see that, and she still wants to spare your life after you tried to ruin hers."

They both heard a shot fired and turned to FP who was holding the gun the gang leader was to late to grab. FP pointed it at the man too, "now we are peacefully going to wait for the cops to get here, their own station that they abandoned and lock you goons up."

With police sirens in the background, FP gave the gun to one of the serpents. He walked up to Jughead and embraced him. Taking off his ring he put it on Jughead's finger, who tried to resist.

"No-" Jughead shook his head.

FP hugged him and took the gun from his hands, "now listen here, boy, you have a new task at hand, you have to protect her," he pointed at Betty, " and the rest of the Serpents. Sorry, there will be no official ceremony not until I come back at least. Whatever happens tonight, let it happen, but you have to take my mantel, you have to be the new Serpent King."

"Dad, I-I can't I don't know how," Jughead said.

"Nonsense boy, royal blood runs through your veins, you will know how, and she will help you," he winked at Betty, "from what I have seen today this girl has some hell of a nerve. Now go." He let Jughead go.

Before he could say anything, the police cars got closer and Betty pulled him back to the car. Jughead felt like everything was in slow motion. He got into his dad's car, Betty next to him as he drove away, watching his dad smile proudly at him. Betty grabbed his hand which was not on the steering wheel and held onto it for dear life. His dad was right, he had a new task, he had to protect her now.

The drive back was filled with silence and awkwardness. Betty could tell that his mind was on something else, and she didn't mind because so was hers. How they got back to his trailer, she could not remember. All she knew was that she was no longer in that terrible cell room.

Betty suddenly felt two arms wrap around her and turned to face Jughead. He was there the whole time, but both their minds were absent, until now.

"Hi," Jughead smiled, "how are you?"

"The question is," Betty smiled back and put her hand on his cheek, "how are you?"

"I'll be fine, my dad knows how to take care of himself, the most important part is that you are safe and finally with me." He said, putting his hand on hers.

Betty sighed, "what about you becoming king, how are you going to deal with the rest of the Serpents?"

"I am thinking of starting fresh, I don't want to rule the Serpents like my father did, it is time for us to stop hiding in the shadows, the town has to accept us," he said.

Betty nodded, "I am so sorry for everything, I feel like if I never annoyed you in high school and begged you to change me, none of this would have happened."

"And then I would have never fallen in love with you, and then you would have never been free, sometimes perfection needs a little bit of chaos," Jughead kissed her, and it felt like he had not done that for so many years.

Betty melted into his kiss, and pulled him down to the couch with her. She shifted under his weight and wrapped her arms around his body. Feeling how he was deepening the kiss, she pulled away, "wait-"

"What's wrong?" Jughead asked, knitting his eyebrows together in confusion. She stayed close to his lips, he could almost feel every breath she left with her words.

"Nothing, it's perfect," Betty smiled and kissed him back.

Her hands found his back, as she pulled him even closer to herself, as if that was even possible. She could feel him getting up and pulling her up with him, leading her to his bedroom where she first stayed. She was afraid of that room once, but now she couldn't wait to get there. As she pulled on the hem of his shirt, he took it off, and she threw hers off immediately.

Struggling with his jeans, Jughead noticed how she was eyeing the bed and smiled to himself. She noticed his smirk and turned to him.

"It just looks so inviting, and it was such a long day," Betty walked up to him, wrapping her arms around his bare body.

He stroked the back of her head, "why don't we just lie in silence and have some peace and quite for once?"

"That sounds magical, your majesty," Betty said jokingly.

Jughead pulled away, "what, no one knows I'm king yet, shh, there might be spies everywhere."

She fell down on the bed and he followed her, covering them with the covers. He might have had a million responsibilities ahead of him, but in that moment he was with her and he did not care what the next day brought.
