Betty stood outside of the trailer park she once ran way from. Gaining courage somewhere deep within she stepped into the territory, marching towards the trailer in the middle, knowing it could only belong to the king himself.
Knocking on the door, Betty waited patiently, squeezing her phone tightly in her hands for dear life. The door was opened, a shocked FP Johns stood in front of it, his hand on the door frame and his frame towering over Betty.
"Mr. Jones, do you remember me, I am-"
"Betty Cooper, the tiny good girl my son has the shots for, of course I remember you," FP interrupted her, opening the door a bit, "what brings you here, I thought the two of you love birds skipped town."
Passing through his blocked arm, Betty walked into the trailer sitting down on the couch. The belly of the snake did not seem so scary to her anymore. "I killed a man," she said, looking on the opposite wall of her.
FP raised his eyebrows and shook his head, "didn't your mommy teach you killing people was a bad thing? Cry me a river."
"He was a bad man! He was going to hurt Jughead, I don't know what came over me, I just picked up the gun and I shot him." She remembered that fateful night, seeing the shock on Jughead's face when Rat fell down in front of him.
FP sat down in front of her on the coffee table, "what are you here for?"
"They arrested him, Jughead, for something I did," tears started to fall from her eyes.
FP shook his head in disbelief, "and you decided that finally a rich girl like you has a conscience and has to do the right thing? I don't believe it."
He was about to walk off when she grabbed his hand and stopped him, "please, Mr. Jones, I love your son." He looked her in the eyes, he saw her pain, but it was hard for him to believe her.
Sighing, he sat back down, putting his face in his palms. There wasn't much he could do, Jughead was a serpent, the cops would never let him go.
"Is there anyway you could prove that it was self defense?" FP asked Betty.
Betty realized that it was just her word against the crime, but Jughead was not the only witness, her mother was there too. If only she could convince Alice Cooper to testify against Rat and his intentions. "My mother, she was there with us-"
"No," FP said, quickly standing up from where he was seated and pacing around the room, "she could say something worse, like confirm that Jughead killed him. Alice Cooper hates the serpents."
Although knowing that FP was right, Betty was willing to risk that for Jughead, "Mr. Jones, all she cares about is my safety and her reputation, she wouldn't do everything possible to destroy the serpents if I wasn't in danger."
FP sighed, sitting back down, "do you know why your mother hates the serpents so much Betty?"
She shook her head, daring FP to tell her.
"There was something wrong with you Betty, and one of the serpents found out, he blackmailed Alice and Hal because they were about to run for the office of mayor in Riverdale. Well, one day he kidnapped you when they ignored your threats. None of us knew of his decision, nor did we support it. He acted on his own will, dragging down the name of the serpents." FP explained, looking down at the ground with regret, "I should have stopped him."
"What happened?" Betty asked.
FP looked up at her, "your mother arranged the meeting. He gave you back, but he wouldn't agree to giving back the information he gained on you. There was a fight," he sighed, "your mother shot him."
Betty sat back on the couch, slouching down, her own mother shot someone like she did, they were more alike than ever, "what was wrong with me?"
FP looked up at her, "nothing, there is nothing wrong with you."
Instead of sighing with relief Betty let a few tears fall, "Mr. Jones, I have a darkness in me that only your son taught me how to control. There is something wrong with me."
Standing up and putting his hand on her shoulder FP leaned down and whispered, "we don't let our demons control us, I know that better than anyone."
It was all she needed to hear, Betty stood up and thanked FP for his time spent talking to her. Whoever she was and whatever the reason behind her behavior was, Betty did not care anymore. She found out that her path was quite close to her mothers.
Jughead hated jail, he knew that prison would be much worse, but he hoped that at least a crew of Serpents could be formed and he would not be alone. In the sheriffs office he was all alone as they eyed him and looked over the evidence.
"So, you killed a man?" Sheriff Keller asked, raising his eyebrow as if in doubt.
Jughead smirked, "I am a troubled youth right, the profile matches."
Keller nodded, "the only thing is, the gun belongs to Alice Cooper, and the fingerprints, well they are-" Jughead's eyes widened, but before the sheriff could finish his sentence Betty walked into the office with a bang.
"I killed him. It was me." She said, looking at Jughead who was frantically shaking his head, shock in his eyes.
As the deputy started to arrest Betty, Jughead jumped to her side, asking her why she would do such a thing.
"It was in self defense," Betty turned to sheriff Keller and said.
"Is there anyone who can confirm this?" He asked her.
Betty sighed, "yes, my mother Alice Cooper."
