"Actually, I need a job."

Veronica Lodge hated the fact that she could no longer talk to her best friend Betty Cooper. There was a strange stigma revolving around her now, she always hung out with Jughead Jones and dare Veronica think, she was his girlfriend. Still, it was strange to her how a few days ago she was hanging out with Betty in the Riverdale park, and now she was sitting alone on the swings as Archie Andrews did his homework on the ground. Sure, the red-headed hunk was her favorite entertainment, but there was no one like Betty Cooper to bring her spirits up.

"This is stupid!" Veronica finally said, pushing her feet away from the ground and swinging up into the air, "we can't talk to Betty. She's our best friend Archie."

Archie sighed, he too was upset about the situation, but not as much as Veronica, "Betty made her decision Ronnie."

"Yeah, well what if he's keeping her hostage! You know Betty, you know how she can't say no to people!" Veronica got up off the swings and joined Archie on the ground.

He shook his head, "Ronnie that's crazy, how could he keep her captive, she goes home every day like normal."

"Well, maybe he is blackmailing her!" Veronica continued to guess and wonder what could have happened to her best friend.

Archie laughed, Ronnie was being silly, but she always was, "Veronica, I want to rescue Betty from him as much as you do, but what can we do?"

Thinking for a second, and almost agreeing with Archie, Veronica suddenly got a twinkle in her eye and an idea in her brain, "we need to hatch a plan! We will follow them, then we will find out what is really going on and when the time is right we bring our Betty back!"

Although he didn't like the sound of the her plan, he knew that it was the only way to get Betty out of the hands of the son of the most ruthless gang leader in the universe. Archie agreed to follow Betty and Jughead, spy on them, until they have the right moment to rescue their friend.

Meanwhile her friends were worrying themselves with who Betty hung around, their dearest Betty was sitting in the middle of her room on the floor, staring intensely at a bottle of pills. She had to take them, but she could never bring herself to do so. The glass of water was on the table, resting and picking up the warmth of the room. She could see small little particle floating around in the water that were reflected through the sunlight peeking through her window. Picking up the bottle of pills, Betty opened it up and took two out. She was almost ready to swallow them and calm the voices in her head, but Betty didn't. Instead she threw them on the floor, just like the rest of the pills in the bottle. She watched them drop like rain and smash on her perfect white carpet. The blue pills were now out of their container, just like Betty's demons were out in the open. Getting rid of the pills was like freeing her darkness that she knew she always had. No one was perfect, but Betty tried so hard to be.

Tears started to fall from her eyes, not because she was upset or scared, but because she finally felt some sort of freedom and it made her happy. Betty picked herself off the floor and looked into her mirror. She wasn't anyone different, yet she felt different. Letting her hair fly out of her pony tale, Betty wiped off her tears. She grabbed the red lipstick that was on her counter and applied it to her lips. Her mother never let her wear red, the color was far too bright, but Betty didn't care. She was shining brighter than she ever was. She realized that she was in need of a change in her clothing. Of course, she couldn't let her mother find whatever she wanted to buy, for most of the things she wanted were a darker shade than she was allowed to wear.

Looking out the window Betty decided that the only was she'd leave the house looking the way she did, lose hair and red lipstick, she'd have to climb out her window. She opened it, climbed out onto a near tree and jumped down, making sure that she left the window a bit opened to get back in later. Betty thought about where to go, but no place came to mind. The only places she knew were the Riverdale park and Veronica's. There was one place the old Betty would promise herself to never go back to, but this Betty was changing by the second, and somehow the Serpents lair didn't seem like such a scary place anymore.

Betty started walking, preparing herself for the worst, but also the best. She never knew what to expect from the Serpents, but at the same time, Jughead would probably be there and she had not seen him all day, since it was a Saturday and there was no school. The second she walked up closer to the bar where the Serpents usually hang around, every biker within a square mile of a place knew of her presence. Most of them just stared, as if they were afraid to approach her, that's right, she was Hal Cooper's little girl. The one's who were brave enough to whistle at her were immediately stopped by their friends. Betty didn't look at them, she was too focused on the bar entrance to pay any attention to them, and she also didn't want to give them any attention. When she walked in, silence fell onto the room and everyone looked at her, probably wondering what the Cooper's little girl would be doing in a place like this.

One of the bald biker looking men with a Serpents leather jacket walked up to her, "well, well, well, Betty Cooper. You shouldn't be here alone, see some of the Serpents don't like you, FP is in the back dealing with some business, I'll take you to him," he showed her a door.

Betty didn't trust him, God knows what would happen to her the second she walked through that door. As if saving her from a huge mistake, the door opened and FP walked out with a couple of other guys. He quickly noticed her, but gave off zero emotions on his face. He simply walked up to her and spit a matchstick that was in his mouth out into a trash can that was near the bar.

"What are you doing here Betty, this place is too dangerous for you, just like the town is dangerous for Jughead. We're divided, remember? The south is ours, everything else belongs to your parents. Don't you be poking your nose around these parts," FP said.

She shook her head, "I don't represent the town, I just came here for Jughead."

"Well he's not here. Besides, he doesn't like the kind of stuff that's done here," FP looked around and Betty followed his gaze. Drunk men, gambling, prostitutes.

Looking down she didn't know what to say, it was a mistake to come here, but she had no other place to go. Betty needed a different life, a secret life, away from her parents.

"Actually," an idea came to her head, "I need a job."

"A job?" FP raised his eyebrows, "you know what kind of jobs we offer here? Night dancers, slutty waitresses, and prostitutes, you don't want any of this Betty-"

"A waitress, I'll be a waitress. As long as you pay me fair and square!" She cut him off.

FP laughed, "fair and square? Even the language you use doesn't fit in around these parts, besides I'd feel bad about putting my son's girlfriend into one of those waitress outfits."

"Well, I'm not his girlfriend and it's my decision to make, I need a job. Last time I'm offering this, yes or no?" Betty was tired of him sneaking away from her request.

He thought for a minute, looked at his friends and then smiled, "you know how to do business Betty Cooper. Go to the back, Can will show you the lockers and your new clothes."

The bald guy who approached her before smirked and waited for Betty to follow him, "you best not be spreading around that you're not Jughead's girl, some of the lovely fella's here might get the wrong idea."

Can showed her the lockers and what to wear. Her shift started the second she walked out. At first it was easy, but then all the stares and cat calls got to her. Betty ignored them, she had to endure it to prove her own strength. Besides, nothing is more wild than a slutty waitress, and that was a big step for the perfect Elizabeth Cooper.
