Part 1-Hannah's POV

It was a normal hot and sticky day in California and I was determined just to get through the rough summer with absolutely zero friends. I got up off the burning sidewalk as my dog, Pepper the black schnauzer poodle mix, walked over with tail wagging and tongue hanging out. As I started walking to the park with Pepper I felt myself lonely again. I only have one sibling named Tyler but he's ten so I don't think he would be the best company. Besides, the whole car ride from Ohio was spent listening to Tyler try to read the same book over and over again until the next rest stop. And sleeping of course.

My Mom had gotten re-married to Murry. I simply refused to call him father because I actually liked my real dad. And we left him in Ohio to live with a skinny golf player who doesn't care about anything but golf, his work, and Mom. He seems to sense that I don't like him as much as I try to. He's a nice guy and everything but maybe if he loved us, and payed more attention to us I would like him more.

I play with Pepper and occasionally look at my phone to see not a single text back from any of my friends back home.

As I'm getting ready to stop playing catch with my adorable dog, I stand up and turn my head away from the crowd of people having picnics, playing volleyball, frisbee, and an assortment of things. Then all of the sudden I get the feeling I should turn around like someone was watching me. And out of nowhere a frisbee flies towards me and hits me smack in the forehead.

It startled me so much I fell to the ground in pain. "Ow." I mutter. Pepper drops the ball on my lap as if to be in a sympathetic way to show her concern. "Are you okay? Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" I hear not too far away from me. I look up to see a girl my age. She had dark hair, bleached an auburn color at the ends. She was wearing a bikini and flip flops. "Uh, yeah. I guess. That's alright though. I'm sure you didn't mean to." I said, rubbing my forehead. She helped me to my feet and retrieved my phone from the ground along with Pepper's ball.

"Thanks." I say to her. She smiled with a hint of guilt in her wide, beautiful eyes. "No problem. Here, I'll get you some ice. And I'm so sorry, my brother doesn't know how to aim." She said smiling a bit with humor.

We walk over to her cooler of ice and she gets me a bag for it. I look over to see a mini, boy version of the girl my age. "Here," she said, handing me the bag. "I hope that helps clean up the little bruise. The brother that threw the frisbee is Justin and my sister Kaylee. I'm Josephine by the way. But my friends call me Josie." She extends her hand and I shake her hand shyly. "I'm Hannah. I have a brother named Tyler." I say, like it would matter. "Cool! Maybe we should hangout sometime?" She asked, hopeful. "That would be great!" I say, jubilated maybe a little too much. "Don't scare her, gosh what are you doing?!" I think to myself. "You should ask one of your parents if you can come for a bit today." She said, handing me back my phone.

I couldn't believe how fast it was happening. We barely knew each other and she was inviting me over to her house! I call Mom and waited as the phone rang.

Part 2-Josie's POV

I sat on my bed in the middle of my cluttered room, and applied some light makeup. I don't know why but ever since mom let me wear makeup in 8th grade I have been obsessed. I braided my hair quickly and heard Hannah open the door. "Hello?" Her voice echoed throughout the house."I'm upstairs!" I yelled finishing up my hair. I stomped down the stairs and gestured her to come up. She followed me up to my room and I quickly threw my clothes in the corner. "You have a nice room," She said making me feel a bit better about the clutter. "I'm so glad I ran into you, I was gonna have to go to my Aunt's. My life is not that fun-filled. Anything interesting ever happen to you before?" I asked trying to break the very awkward silence. "Well, my mom got re-married with this dude. And we moved here. I like my real dad better." She said. I bit my lip hoping I didn't make the situation more awkward. "Ugh, all I ever do is babysit my little siblings.  I just broke up with my boyfriend, because he's moving away." I said, suddenly tearing up. "Wow great job Josie you just made things 100x more awkward!" I thought to myself. She rubbed my back, and said, "It's ok, it's summer I mean there's a lot of hot guys out there." With that we shared a laugh and we knew this would be the start of a good friendship.
