I was sitting at home, by myself, wondering why Hannah wasn't picking up any of my texts. I was bored out of my mind. My siblings were at a friends house (again) and mom was at a dinner with her friends. And I'm sitting here (with no friends) minding my own business. So when the doorbell rang it scared me so much that I fell off the couch. Devan opened the front door and realized me being pathetically on the ground. "Oh, are you ok?" He asked as he helped me up. "I'm fine," I say as I struggle to get up. "So what made you to decide to visit ol' lonely me?" I ask with humor in my voice. He laughed and said, "Well, Collins went somewhere and is not picking up any of my texts so I decided to visit you." I smiled and said, "Glad you did, I was bored out of my mind and Hannah wasn't picking up any of my texts either. Here take a seat." I said gesturing towards the couch where I was sitting before.
He sat down and we talked about the most random things until one topic he brought up. "What happened between you and Hannah a couple of days ago?" He asked, probably hoping that I wouldn't been defensive and say: "I don't really wanna talk about it." But I wanted to talk about it. "Again I am so sorry about that. We just got a little heated and I guess we didn't know where to put our feelings..." he looked confused, but I kept going. "I'm sorry I made you guys feel awkward..." I said, kinda sad, and still regretting arguing with Hannah at all. "It's ok, it's all in the past now, and we can set the past aside and worry about the future..." he said. He wiped a tear off my face that I didn't even realize was there. "Thanks Devan. I'm glad you forgave me." I gave him a small smile and embraced him suddenly in a hug. "I love you Josie, you know that right?" he asked me. I let go and said: "I love you too Devan."
We lean in very slowly to kiss when all of the sudden the door opens and we both glance over. I see the face and instantly cringe....my ex-boyfriend. And behind him was my mom and she announced quite proudly, "Honey!! Look who's back!!!! Wait a minute, who's this?" She suddenly lost her proud tone, and gestured towards Devan. Of course it had to be VERY awkward because I had my arms around Devan's neck, and he had his arms wrapped around my waist. We instantly stopped and Devan stared at me with a confused look.
"Hey mom, can I talk to you for one second. Alone." "Sure sweetie." She said with that same warm, mom-look in her eyes. I pulled her aside and up the stairs. "Mom?! What were you thinking, bringing him here?" I said, angry and sorta embarrassed that they happened to barge in like that. "Weren't you guys totally in love? You guys only broke up because we moved to this part of Cali. Right?" Mom said trying to be "cool". I gave her a weird look and said, "No we were not "totally in love" and I broke up with him because he was a money-loving jerk." Mom looked kinda hurt and said, "He has nice parents..." I sighed and said, "I don't love him I love..." But I was interrupted by yelling that I heard from downstairs.
I run downstairs to see Clifton and Devan shoving each other. Devan held Clifton by the collar of his shirt and that's when I had to end it. "Guys! GUYS! Devan put him down!" I commanded and Devan put him down right before mom stumbled down. Mom came down and awkwardly said, "Well um Cliffton, it's getting a bit late and I think your parents would be worried. Come on let's go." Mom led him out the door as Devan and Cliffton exchange looks. I glare at Clifton as mom leads him out. I almost saw out of the corner of eye, Devan smiling. He looks at me and I feel so bad about what just happened. "Devan I'm sorry, I didn't know that he was going to come." I said, nervously hoping that he would accept my apology for the millionth time. Fortunately, there was a gentleness in his eyes and he said, "Naw it's ok. This guy didn't know who he was messing with!" I smile and kiss him. This time, we actually get to. "I'll see you another time when we can hang out with just the two of us." I said. "Yeah." He said. Before he walked out the door he said: "Hey Josie?" "Yeah Devan?" I ask. "Are we dating?" He asks. "I don't know..are we?" I ask. "I guess we are." Devan says. "It's official then?" I ask to confirm so. "Yeah, it's official." He said. We kissed one last time and he headed home.
Devan's POV:
Josie left me sitting there with this cheesy looking guy at the door. He closed the door and stood over by where I was sitting. "So, who are you? And why are you all over my lady?" he said trying to be some kind of wise guy. "Your lady? Do you even know Josie?" I ask, standing up. I was a lot taller than this guy and obviously he didn't work out. "Uh, yeah. I'm her ex...soon to be her fiance." he said. "Oh yeah? Have you even kissed her yet?" I ask. "Uh, well no-" he starts. I cut him off: "If you're supposed to be her fiance then why was I just about to kiss her? Why would she go out with me more than one place?" I ask. "Hey, you better just back up buddy!" he said, obviously upset that I beat him at winning over Josie. "No, you back up!" I say, I push him and he tumbles over. He gets up and punches my stomach. He holds his hand in pain, surprised at how solid my abs were. I grab the collar of his shirt and then stop when Josie enters shouting: "Guys! GUYS! Devan put him down!" I put him down immediately and then I knew, her Mom wasn't gonna like this. I put him down just in time for Josie's Mom came down the stairs. "Well, um Cliffton, it's getting a bit late and I think your parents would be worried. Come on let's go." Josie's Mom said. She led him out the door and I smiled out of success. I was glad that guy was out though. But...her ex soon to be fiance? I hope not....
