Mathias trudged through the deserted street, snow sticking in between his frozen toes. Carrying a stick, he let it run on the sides of buildings as he walked.

The snow continued to flutter around the sky, covering the city in hues of gray and white. The little Danish boy stuck out his tongue and caught a little snowflake.

"Hey, kid!" Mathias turned around and saw a man dressed in rags. His small legs started to run away from the dangerous stranger. The man began to pursue the child; aiming to mooch the child and torture him.

"Nej!" Screamed the little boy, running faster and faster. He attempted to cut through small alleyways to confuse the man, but the stranger was quick.

"Come on, kid! I won't hurt you!" Mathias had heard those words before. His father would convince his children that he meant no harm, only to abuse them minutes later. Tears lined his blue eyes as he remembered the painful memory; dulling his sight. Still, he persisted.

Mathias and his siblings developed a lot of stamina over the years as they ran away from home.  Running away was something that happened quite often for the little brothers. The child continued to run and maintained a quick speed.

He caught sight of a patch of black ice and hopped over it. Fortunately for Mathias, the man slipped on the ice and faceplanted to the ground. He smiled and fist pumped the air as he ran into an alleyway, catching his breath.

"Whoo! I better get out of here before the man sees me," Mathias quickly walked away from the alleyway and the man. He ran into a small park to find temporary shelter. As soon as the small boy found shelter, a worried look lined his face as he realized that he was lost.

'Shoot, where am I? This area doesn't seem familiar at all. God, where the hell am I?'

"Bror, was he serious?" Lukas asked as he stared at the building across from him. Berwald grunted, staring at the building as well.

"I honestly don't know. He always does this," Berwald sighed in exasperation. The Norwegian boy turned around and walked towards the shelter to eat. After a few minutes, Berwald followed suit.

The four boys finished the food in silence as they worried about their foolish, older brother. A few minutes later, Emil began to erupt into a series of violent coughs.

"LILLEBROR, NO!" Lukas placed a rag over his younger brother's body. The other brothers began to hug the youngest sibling. Berwald placed a palm on the boy's forehead.

"He's burning, Lukas!" Berwald exclaimed as Tino wailed in distress.

"Don't let Emil die!" The Finnish boy cried, hugging his brother. Lukas shot a dirty glare at Tino and lifted his brother out of the shelter.

"We need to take him somewhere warm, Berwald. Preferably a doctor's office," Lukas stared once again at the street, whilst Berwald furrowed his eyebrows into confusion.

"Are you serious?" Tino exclaimed, "No one at a doctor's office will believe a group of kids! Also, where would we find a doctor?" Berwald nodded in agreement.

"Dammit!" Lukas sighed, running out into the street with Emil. Berwald and Tino followed the two brothers out of the alley. The child stared at the sky and prayed for hope.

"The bakery," Berwald's voice echoed through the atmosphere.

"The what?" Lukas stared at his brother, perplexed.

"The bakery. It should be warm there. Perhaps they'll help us," Berwald stared at his brother. "If they gave Mathias food, then they could help us."

"It's worth a shot!" Tino piped in, gripping his little, stuffed Maltese toy.

Lukas glanced at the sky once again, gripping Emil tightly.

'Should we go? We can't risk it, but lillebror...'

"Let's go."

Woah, I've been gone for awhile.

I'm really sorry for the long, unexpected hiatus. I've been wrestling with schoolwork and my extracurricular activities.

I really hope that you guys enjoy this long-anticipated chapter.

Also, what would you guys think if I made this series into a separate book? Please tell me in the comments.

Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Enjoy! :-)
