The next three days that followed by, I was able to complete the whole top floor, from the family room to the kids playroom, Chris's room and we even got started on the mini bar by the pool side, my team and I worked really hard together to bring out the best results.
I'm sure Chris is going to love his room when he sees the colourful artwork, the carpet and the pretty cool shelf where we arranged his coloring books. Also, like his brother's room, his name was displayed by a huge Neon light above his bed.
The playroom was beautiful, I wished it was my playroom, we separated it into two sections, Leo could play his basket ball in one part while Chris could paint whatever he wants in the other part, the blue lounge chairs and some of their teddies were right on the shag carpet.
There was a Samsung TV, a drum set, a chalkboard and so many toys, it was really cute.
The next days that followed I used to set up the living room, the kitchen, dining area and a few guest rooms. All that was left was Riley's office, the library and the other guest rooms. The house was already looking beautiful.
The guys also helped me set up a mini-bar by the pool side, I had planned to create some sort of Hawaiian theme, dark wood, and bright flowers, potted palms and a pergola roof. I just hope she likes it, the guys and I worked tirelessly, I wanted the best results.
On Saturday, we decided to take a break and continue the next day. Katie's fiancé party was later this evening and I had the whole day to myself. I slept most of the day, I had been so busy this week that I had barely gotten enough rest. I just hope all this stress pays off, I have no idea what I'd do if Riley doesn't like my work, probably kill myself. Okay, that's taking it too far but I'd be so disappointed.
I got off my bed to go pick out an outfit, as my stylist wasn't here to help me out. I was really confused on what to wear, all my clothes were scattered on my bed, yet I was still unsure on what exactly would work, I wanted to look good. Who knows? I might just find me a boyfriend at this party.
I finally went with dark skinny jeans, a dark brown loose form top and gold pumps. At 5pm sharp, an Uber was waiting to take me to the address Katie texted me, it was being held at her fiance's house, he just got a new place, meaning he had two things to celebrate. I brought a bottle of champagne as a gift, I hoped it was okay, I was excited but also nervous as hell, I wasn't really good at socializing but I knew I had to try, especially if I wanted to get a man.
The car came to halt in front of an expensive looking apartment building, it was beautiful and huge. Katie's fiancé was definitely loaded, I paid the driver and walked into the lobby. I texted Katie and she texted me her fiance's apartment number.
I got into the elevator and headed straight to the top floor, I spotted the apartment immediately I got out of the elevator. I could hear speakers blaring from where I stood, I contemplated on knocking but then thought against it, as I didn't think anyone would hear. I didn't want to call Katie so, I walked straight in and to my surprise, no one even noticed me. There were a lot of people and everyone was busy doing their own thing, dancing, chatting, drinking. It almost reminded me of my college days, I hope I was dressed appropriately.
I scanned the room for Katie without luck. I took a moment to admire the apartment, it was amazing. I was right, the guy was loaded. I made my way into the kitchen and heaved a sigh of relief when I finally found Katie, she was with a couple of girls and they were all laughing and drinking.
"OMG! Eva, I'm so happy to see you," Katie said, coming over to give me a hug. She looked so happy, if I didn't know better, I could've sworn she was the birthday girl. I hugged her back, she also looked beautiful in matching white crop top and shorts.
"Girls, this is my good friend from work, Eva," Katie said, introducing me. They all smiled at me. She turned back to me "And Eva, these are my friends and bridesmaids;
Cindy, Tanya and Stephanie." I said hi to each of them and took a seat at the table.Katie's phone buzzed and she picked it up to read her text message.
"Sorry guys, Victor's going to be a bit late, something is holding him up at work, but he'll be here soon," she said. "We kinda want to surprise him when he steps in, he doesn't know about my plans, he probably thinks we're going to cuddle on the couch and watch a movie or something but I knew I had to do something," she informed me smiling. I was really happy for her, it's obvious she's head over heels for Victor. Wait a minute, Victor? Definitely, it wouldn't be the same Victor I knew, there are a lot of Victors in this world. How could I even think that way?
"Eva, what would you like to drink? We have cocktails or would you prefer a beer or something?" Katie asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Cocktails will do," I said. She brought me a glass and I thanked her, she left the kitchen a while later to go entertain her guests in the living room.
As soon as Katie left, I felt really out of place. The ladies were all chatting amongst themselves, well Cindy and Tanya were, Stephanie like me, was on her phone. I was scrolling through pictures on Instagram. Well, if I'm being honest, I was stalking Riley's page, she has about five million followers while I barely have up to a thousand. Her pictures involved her going on trips with her kids or posing in bikinis, she looked so hot in all of them, even in her makeup-free selfies, I couldn't help but feel a little envious of her.
"Hi, Eva right?" Someone said, I looked up from my phone and it was Stephanie, I nodded in reply.
"Um, actually, I wanted to talk to you about something, well actually it's a club, if you don't mind?"
"Yeah sure," I said, wondering what it was and glad that someone was talking to me.
"Okay..."
"Guys please, take your positions, he'll be here soon, he's already in the elevator," Katie said, interrupting our conversation, bad timing.
"So, go join everyone in hiding, the lights are turned off, I'm gonna give you guys a sign and you'll all pop out and scream 'happy birthday', okay?" Katie explained. We headed out to the living room, and hid at the dinning section, all the lights were turned off and we couldn't even see each other, I hoped I didn't bump into someone and ruin the surprise.
Few minutes later, Katie's fiancé finally arrived, she ran to welcome him, I could tell from her footsteps and I could also hear them making out from where I stood. After they were done with their mushiness, which was grossing me out, seriously, they were talking about what they were going to do to each other in the bedroom.
Katie did a really good job for putting up with the act. I know how uncomfortable I'd be if I had to say something like that in front of people, I could also here soft giggles from where I stood, I couldn't blame them, Katie and her boyfriend say the weirdest and grossest things. Gosh, I wonder how he'd feel when he finds out we were actually listening to him.
Finally Katie sent the worst signal ever, she kept on saying happy birthday to Victor, I was beginning to wonder why she kept saying it repeatedly, I'm sure Victor was also starting to think something was wrong with his fiancée, it finally clicked and we all popped out from our spots and screamed so loud, I'm sure the neighbours heard us.
After the excitement died down, everybody went to do their own thing, some people were gathered around the couple, I'm sure congratulating Victor, I didn't even get a chance to see him, so I went back to do my thing. "Eva!" Katie called me and I turned around to face her. "Yeah," I answered. "Come, I'll like you to meet my fiancé," she said, and took my hand. We went to the living room where two guys were talking to each other. "This is Victor," she said, and then I saw her fiancé. God! I was in shock, like you know when people say it's a small world, well it really is a small world, I never in my life thought I'd ever see this face again and he ends up being Katie's fiancé, my first and only friend from work. I didn't even know how to react but I knew I couldn't tell Katie, at least not now. Besides, it was a long time ago, I didn't think he'd even remember me, but I knew I was only lying myself, not with the look he gave me, he definitely remembered.
