Of course we do, we don't claim otherwise.
It's impossible to not cause any harm, we could walk to the grocery store to buy our vegan grub and on the way we step on an ant or a bird flys right into the car. And although you choose to drive/walk it doesn't mean it's your fault some things are out of our control, Veganism is not about causing no harm but causing the least amount of harm as possible especially when it's unneeded.
Killing animals for food is unneeded, we can eat the plants right away (we don't need to filter them through an animal first). Killing animals for clothing is unneeded when there is alternatives such as cotton or man made pleather. Exploiting animals for food is unneeded, we produce our own breast milk/eggs we don't need to steal another animals secretions or eggs. Exploiting animals for entertainment is unneeded we have other forms of entertainment such as movies & concerts. Exploiting animals for experimental reasons is unneeded because animals react differently to things and the end product must be tested on a human anyway.
Sure we could never leave our house and starve to death and get the same thing done but that's not practical. People got lives to live, and not purchasing animal products doesn't hinder that.
There is a big difference between the numbers of lives vegans vs meat eaters are claiming. Now I don't got the exact numbers on hand but I'll give you an idea of the difference:
Vegans:
-may accidentally kill bugs/ other small creatures
-small creatures are killed when some crops are being harvested for your food
-if buying from unsustainable sources forest will be cleared to grow food killing wildlife
Meat Eaters:
-may accidentally kill bugs/ other small creatures
-small creatures are killed when crops are being harvested for feed for the livestock you eat (what 1 cow eats is enough to feed 20 people a plantbased diet! Meaning much more land thus crop needed= more animal deaths) + even more land if you eat plants on the side of your animal products
-animal killed to end up on your plate
-forest cleared to make room for feed crops/ grazing area= wild life killed + if buying plants from unsustained sources more wildlife will be killed to make room to grow those foods.Purposely killing 80 billion animals is a lot worse than accidentally killing say 7 billion. Your intention is really what matters but of course killing more than killing less is always seen as bad as well. So yes vegans still kill animals but at least we are trying not to... how many animals do you purposely kill everyday?
