"You need to stop or you're going to get us all killed."
"By what? We're all alone here!"
"We don't know that for sure! There could be savages just around the corner, waiting for a sign of life so they can attack us."
"What could they possibly gain from attacking us?!"
"I don't know, maybe food for a few days?!"
"Min! Rose! Calm down, please. If the fire doesn't attract things, your yelling will."
Rose glared at Hermione and Hermione glared back. Draco sighed and sat back against the log he was resting on, rubbing his eyes with one hand. Silence overtook the group for a while until Hermione stated that she was going to look for some berries or fruits to eat. When she left, Draco stared after her, sighing again before staring at the fire.
Rose stood from her seat near the fire and sat beside Draco, staring intently at him.
"What?" he asked after feeling her stare, but trying to ignore it.
"Why don't we leave?"
"What do you mean, Rose? We can't leave. There's no way off this island. We just have to wait it out and see if anyone comes looking for us."
"We could build a raft. Sail to shore."
"Rose, this isn't one of your adventures. We can't just build a raft, we have nothing to build one with."
"What we need is good ideas," Hermione sneered when she returned.
"Please, don't start again!" Draco said firmly before another word could be uttered. The two girls stared at each other with loathsome glares. Draco stood and walked to Hermione, "Did you find any food?" he asked softly.
Hermione nodded and handed him a few bananas she'd found. He gratefully took them and began walking toward the water.
"Where are you going?" Rose asked.
"Just taking a walk," he replied over his shoulder, not stopping.
Hermione paused, then sat beside Rose and handed her a banana. Rose said a short 'thank you' before opening it and beginning to eat. A short pause followed as the girls watched Draco get smaller as he walked down the beach. Finally, Hermione cleared her throat.
"Draco is right, you know. We can't keep fighting."
Rose looked down, her eyebrows furrowed, "I know. It isn't solving anything."
"I know."
Again, the two fell silent.
"Are--" Hermione started to speak, then changed her mind.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"No. What?"
"Do you have feelings for Draco?" she asked.
Rose looked away, her eyebrows furrowed again, "No," she said after a pause, "Do you?"
"No," Hermione said, "But you're a liar."
Rose's glare snapped back to Hermione, "So are you."
"I am not," Hermione mumbled, taking another bite of her banana. "Why don't we forget about personal feelings and just try to get off this island? I'll forget that I hate you and you can forget that you want to escape with Draco and leave me behind."
Rose paused, her gaze softening, "Agreed," she sighed.
So, when Draco returned from his walk, the girls had made a plan to use vines and logs to create a raft. Though it wouldn't hold for long, it might hold enough for them to reach a destination that wasn't so remote. The following day, the preparations began.
