"Did you like the movie?"

"I dunno, it was a little too mushy for me."

"Yeah, next time I'll let you pick it," Jacob grinned as he slipped his hand into Bella's. Bella turned and smiled, "I thought it would be better than that, but it was pretty gross, wasn't it?"

"It wasn't gross," Bella replied, "Just too kissy. I'd rather do than watch."

"So, you wouldn't be opposed to me kissing you right now?"

Bella shook her head, "No."

Jacob grinned and took her chin in his fingers, "Good," he said gently as he lifted her face toward his. Their lips connected and disconnected with a small noise. Bella bit her bottom lip and smiled, looking down.

"Why do you do that?" Jacob asked.

"Do what?" she asked, looking up again.

"Look away or down every time I touch or kiss you."

"I don't know."

"Are you embarrassed?"

"No."

"Good. Because I'm not. I love you, Bella. You're my girl and I'm never going to leave you like--"

"Don't say it," Bella said, closing her eyes as if the memory was too painful.

"Sorry," Jacob mumbled, "I didn't mean it--"

"It's fine. Can we go?"

Jacob sighed when Bella let go of his hand and walked straight for the door. He watched her go out on to the street and start toward her truck. He ran his hands over his face before following her.

Once in the car, things were scary quiet. So quiet that Jacob could hear every time Bella swallowed. Finally he took initiative and pulled down a side road, ignoring Bella's glare. When he stopped the car near some trees, he looked over at Bella.

"I'm sorry," he said.

"It doesn't matter, Jacob, just take me home."

"It does matter if you're getting so upset over it. I know you, Bella. I know when you're upset. I can feel it. Please tell me what's wrong."

"Alright," Bella mumbled, "I'm sorry. I just miss him sometimes."

"Even though you have me?"

"It's stupid," Bella admitted, "Which is why I didn't want to tell you."

Jacob nodded, not speaking for a few seconds, then he reached over and grabbed Bella's leg, pulling her toward him with ease and looking at her,  "I'm not saying I can replace who he was to you, but maybe I can be something new."

Bella looked in to Jacob's eyes, pausing.

"What do you say?" he asked.

"You're as sappy as that movie we just saw," Bella said with a small smile.

Jacob grinned broadly, "Sue me," he replied.

Bella smiled and rested her forehead against his, "I'm sorry," she said again, "I forget sometimes how good I have it."

Jacob smiled and paused before saying, "You know...Charlie said to have you home by eleven."

"So?"

"It's only ten."

Bella didn't reply, but when Jacob reached behind the seat to pull out a blanket, she smiled slightly, "Okay," she replied.

"Really?" Jacob asked.

Bella nodded, "Yeah," she bit her bottom lip again.

Jacob smiled and leaned over, connecting their lips in a hungry kiss. Bella responded well to his move and tangled her fingers in the hair at the base of his neck. He held her chin and kissed her  as she slowly leaned back until her back hit the seat and he was on top of her.

He disconnected his kiss for a moment, then said, "I love you."

Bella looked up at him, not looking away this time, "I love you, too," she replied before pulling his head back toward her for another kiss.
