Not Everything Is Perfect

My phone starts buzzing in my pocket, causing me to jump. I pull it out, check the Caller ID, smile, and answer it.
"Hey, you. What's up?" I ask. The other end is silent.
"Kaoru?"
"Yeah I'm here." His voice sounds strained.
"What's wrong?"
"So you know what I said last night?" He quietly asks. I blush slightly thinking about last night.
"Which part?"
"About everything being perfect."
"Yeah?"
"I was wrong," he bluntly states. My brow furrows in confusion.
"I've been accepted into the college I was talking about the other day. And I'm going," he continues. The words hit me with an unexpected force.
"But it's in a different country," is the first thing that comes out of my mouth. Once again the silence is screaming between us.
"I know." That's it. That's his only response.
"So what's going to happen?"
"To what?"
"To us." I thought it was pretty obvious but apparently not.
"Well I was thinking about it and..." he doesn't even finish his sentence.
"And what?"
"And long distance relationships never really work out that well," he says slowly. I feel like I can't breathe.
"What are you saying?" I can barely get the words out.
"I think it's the best decision-"
"For  who?!" I almost yell. More silence.
"I really do love you, but I-"
"But nothing. Why would you do this if you love me as much as you claim to." With those final words I end the call in anger. I fall back on my bed and let the tears come. Why? That's all that can go my mind. I open my phone and press shuffle on my songs, hoping for a distraction. But all the words seem to do is mock me.
I wish I'd known before I knew ya, wouldn't have fallen right into ya. Would've skipped to the last chapter first, listened to every single word. But you didn't tell me you would leave me, forgot to mention it wouldn't be easy to get to the getting over. I wish I'd known before I knew ya.
