Everything's Okay?

I'm lying on the grass, looking at the stars with Kaoru, when I sigh. It's not really a content sigh. It's more of a...not content sigh. Kaoru rolls onto his side and looks at me, concern in his eyes. I try to focus my gaze on the sky, not wanting to meet eyes with him. We stay like this for a little bit, Kaoru looking at me and me looking away. I'm about to get up and walk away from this when Kaoru gets up and jumps on top of me, knocking my breath out.

"Kaoru! What the heck?!" I wheeze. He looks down at me.

"I want you to look me in the eyes." He tells me. On instinct I immediately look away, not wanting him to see what I'm really thinking.

"Hey, I'm serious. Look at me." He demands. I reluctantly look up into Kaoru's eyes. When our eyes meet his face immediately becomes beyond concerned. I quickly look away.

"What's going on?" He asks. I shake my head. I'm forced to look at him when he holds my face in his hands.

"Tell me." He demands. I take I breath and make sure to look into his eyes when I tell him.

"It's my fault. I'm the reason you got hit by that truck. Why do you still hang around me?" I let the truth come out. Kaoru's eyes soften and his thumb starts stroking my cheek.

"It's not your fault. It was all on the driver. Even if it was your fault, there's no reason why I would start avoiding you. I love you." He tells me. My eyes widen. I've never heard him say it before. I give him a little smile. He smiles back. I figure we've had our moment, so I push Kaoru off me. He laughs and pretends to be offended.

"What, you don't love me too?" He asks. I smile.

"You know how I feel." I tell him. He seems satisfied with this answer so he lays back down, this time with his arms around me. I stare up at the stars. They seem a little brighter.

"Hey Kaoru?" I whisper.

"Yeah?"

"Will you-"

"Sing to you?" He cuts me off. I can hear the smile in his voice. I close my eyes as he starts.

"They both met in the midnight sky. Got lost in each others' eyes then threw away the map and lost they key." Kaoru sings softly. I lean into him, enjoying the moment.

"Mother Earth and Father Time fell in love over Appalachian Wine, hit a rough spell and almost lost their minds, raised a little hell before they fell in line..."
