Chapter 14

I gulped and walked up to the front of the classroom, wishing I could take out the nubbins. "I'm Alexandra Brown. But, um, you can call me Alex." I say shyly.

Most faces smile at me, some can't meet my eyes because of my tank, and some don't offer any attention.
" I'm Mrs. Gordan. You can sit any where, Alex." Mrs. Gordan says. I sigh, wishing she would just tell me where to sit.

I take a seat on a desk next to a burnette girl, who exchanges a quick glance at me, then turns away when she spots my cannula, I didn't blame her for feeling akward.
She began teaching multiplication, and we started to play 'Around the World' where she holds up a card with a math problem problem and when it's your turn say the answer.

I got it right every time except once, and before I knew it was lunch time.

I walk in the cafeteria with a tray of food, I try to sit at a table with some girls who looked older than me but they wouldn't talk to me so I moved on.

I walked to a table that was fully taken so I sat with a couple people who were sitting by themselves. They smile at me as I sit with them. "Hi, you're the new kid right? My name is Jake and this is Alissa." One of them asks.
He was a boy, brown hair a little long.

Alissa was a girl with black hair that fall right below her shoulders.

We talk for a while and a few other kids sit at the table. Another dude and another girl. The guy has red hair and so does the girl. "This is Kaylee and Scott." Jake says. I nod. "My name is Alex." I say. We all talk for a while longer until it was time for school again. I find out that Scott and Alissa are in my class, which made my first day a lot easier.

They had never asked about my tank, which made me happy.

Mommy picked me up and she even let me ride in the front seat of her car. "Where's Daddy?" I ask. "Making a phone call, he needed privacy. He's still at home."

"How was your first day?" She asks me, handing me a malt. I smile and thank her. "It was good, I made some friends! Alissa, Jake, Scott, and Kaylee. They are really nice!" I say sipping the malt.

She nods, and begins to drive off. We turn on the radio and listen to music. The rest of the ride was filled with smiles and laughter and dancing. Once we got home I threw my backpack on the couch on plop down, wheeling my tank behind me. "I'm tired." I mumble.

Mommy laughs, and Cloud walks on the couch and falls asleep on my back.
I giggle and close my eyes, and I fall asleep in a flash.

Daddy tickles me awake and I burst into a fit of laughter. "I'm awake I'm awake stop stop stop!" I say while laughing. He stops and picks me off the couch. "You didn't even take your shoes off." Daddy retorts. I laugh and Mommy sets food on the table.

"Tonight we are having grilled chicken with potatoes." She announces in a weird way. "You're a crazy person." I say playfully, we all sit down and I say the prayer.

"Lord thank you for our blessings, thank you for this beautiful day and the family I have and the miracles you have granted. And Jesus name I pray, amen" I say. "Let's eat!"

I talk about my day at school while we eat the sliced potatoes and chicken.

Before I knew it Daddy was telling me to brush my teeth and get ready for bed. I got ready for bed, and settled under the sheets. Mommy and Daddy bid me goodnight and I soon fell fast asleep.

-dreaming-

I don't know where I am. I stand before a happy couple with a baby in their arms. A ten year old girl stands next to the couple and shakes a rattle for the baby.

I smile and run over to them, but I stumble and fall forward. Normally I would run over them but I fall through them, I'm like a ghost here. Which I didn't think was told weird considering that this is a dream.

I kept watching them. The little baby had hints of blonde hair. So does the ten year old girl. The ten year old reminds me of someone the girl in the couple is bald, she wears a beanie over her head to hide it.

The man has a scar in his left cheek.

I recognize them too, I come to realization. They are my birth parents. I gasp and fall on my butt. The ten year old glances at me and smiles a cruel smile, and the baby begins to cry, I realize something else:  The baby is me.

My head throbs and I yell out, but nothing escapes my throat. I cannot scream nor run, just watch as Evangeline smiles at me and my parents stare at me as a baby. My head throbs more.

And more.

Until I cannot hear, I cannot feel, but can only see my sister's cruel smile. "See you soon, Alexandra." Evangeline says, waving at me.
