Alex POV

In the morning Alan was still asleep so we decided to come up with a sneaky way to wake up.

We got an air horn and an extra blanket, we blew the air horn and threw the blanket on her head. She panics and scrambles the blanket off of her.

We laughed as she gave us the stink eye. "Get up get up get up get up!" We all chanted in front of Alan. "Fine! Just shut up!" Just then a bang sounded at the door, over and over. Someone, someone impatient, was knocking on the door.

Jalen gasped and let out a harsh whisper "No. She's early." I stare at her with wide eyes. "Who? Whose here?" I ask, Alan shivers under the covers and Dixie climbs in beside her. Jalen shakes her head. "You need to leave. All of you." She says. I hear Evangeline, Jalen's mom,  yell from the kitchen "All right hold your horses!"

"Dixie, Alan, help me hi-" Jalen starts, "WHERE IS SHE!?" a familiar voice bellows throughout the house. My breath hitched and tears gathered in my eyes. "What was that?" I asked, going to do the door while Jalen tried to stop me.

I peaked open the door and saw my sister standing there, with Evagaline's mom. I shut the door and stared hard at Jalen. "You knew." I stated. I gripped her by the shoulders and looked at her with pleading eyes.

"Out the window. Now." She says. "Alan, Dixie, you're coming too."

-Time Skippiness / you better believe it-

We were biking with Jalen's bikes through the streets, frantically searching for our homes. Dixie lived across the street, so me, Alan, and Jalen search for refuge. I turned my head behind me, to see a Ford 150 barreling toward us. "Oh no!" Jalen yells. "Who is that? Guys who is that?" Alan begs, tears making way through all of our eyes.

We're terrified, none of us have hit double digits, I have a disease that could decide to go crazy at any moment, and worst of all, my phsyco maniac sister is chasing us. What else could go wrong?

A Chevy roars and slams in front of us, Evangeline, Jalen's mom, sits in the driver's seat with bloodshot eyes. I spoke too soon. Staring at me with an insane look that tears at me. Her eyes fall on Jalen and I hear her whimper. I jerk the bike around the Chevy and start pedaling with fury and get onto the sidewalk, followed by Alan and Jalen.

"This is my place!" Alan yells, turning into her house. "Bye! Good luck!" She yells, shutting her garage. Who blames her for bailing? I wish I could bail. The bike fell into the ditch on the side of the road and I go tumbling down, I regain my footing and sprint into the trees, ditching the bike like an idiot. I hear Jalen right behind me. "Get up the tree." She says, and we both scurry up the tree and get to the highest branch possible.

When we get up, we're both sobbing silently, scabs on our knees and scratches on our arms. Adrenaline threads through my veins, and my heartbeat fills my ears. I curl up in a ball and sob silently, fat tears rolling down my cheeks. I lean into Jalen and she leans into me as we listen to both Evangalines call our names, their voices laced with menacing laughter.

-Don't mind me, just skipping through time-

Jalen's faint whimpers are the only thing to hear in the dead of night. We had spent all day up there, and as we remain there, the only feeling we have is fear. Fear drives away hope, it eats at your bravery, it scorches your happiness and your leadership. Fear makes you vulnerable. And both of us are petrified. Adrenaline is still pumping in my veins, not letting loose at the knowledge of danger.

"I think we should climb down. My parents probably called the cops and it won't take long for them to find us if we're on the ground." I whisper, barely audible for her to here. "What if they find us first?" She whispers, her voice cracking, streaks of tears lay on her cheeks, which makes me ache. "They won't." I whisper, but I hardly believe it. My sister is in my head.

"Alex?" Jalen mutters meekly. "Yeah?"
"I'm sorry. I was rude when I came to your house,  I thought if I acted like popular girls then you would think I was popular and you'd wanna hang out with me. I'm sorry Alex." She sobs, pulling me into an embrace and rubbing snot into my shirt. I mutter "It's okay. I forgive you."

"But we need to get down from here." I add. As if on que, blue and red lights come from the main road, and I stare at Jalen with a bright smile. "We're gonna get there, we're gonna make it."

But then she lunges. Jalen pulls a knife to my throat and with overwhelming strength, pulls her forearm against my chest. She sobs, cries, chokes, and begs for someone to stop. "I'm sorry Alex." She croaks. "It has to be done."

I gasp as her forearm crosses over my throat, closing my windpipe. Tears roll down my cheeks rapidly as my lungs beg for air. "Jalen.. " I manage to force through my teeth. "I'm sorry." Was all Jalen had to say. Our screams filled the night air, dancing with sirens and police officers yelling.
