Chapter 6
Lunch With Mr. Nerdy Pants
Angie POV
Two forty. I guess punctuality isn't really his strength. I hold that thought and turn around to see if he is somewhere. There he is. Surprisingly, he is jogging towards me. That's the way to do it. Come too late and then jog. What did I get myself into? I flash him a smile. I look at him closely. I know him from somewhere. But where?
“Sorry, I am so late! I didn't know that is was so far away,” he says. I chose a place far far far away from school. If somebody saw me here with a geek, I would lose a huge chunk of my perfect reputation. Nobody knows 'Crunchies'. I used to come here with my mom when she got back from trips. That was a long time ago. Now I am here with a guy I don't know. Interesting development.
“No, problem.” I say. Awkward pause. I don't know what to say to him. It really was a stupid idea to come here.
“Let's play a game!” He says all of a sudden.
“Why not.” I answer.
“The rules are you always have to end with a question. Got it?” He says.
“Yes.” I answer.
“ You have to end with a question. Let's try again. Got it?” he asks.
“Yes. How old are you?” I ask.
“16. And you?” he answers.
“Also 16. Do you have a girlfriend?” I ask. I shouldn't have asked that. Now he thinks I am interested in him!
“No. You?” he asks.
“No. I don't have a girlfriend.” I say smiling at him cheekily.
“What is your favorite video game?”
“Assassins Creed,” he answers.
“ Oh my god. I love Assassins Creed so much! I also like Skyrim and of course GTA!” I say.
“I love GTA, too. So are you in clubs in school?” he asks.
“No, what about you?” I say.
“ I am in the Mathletes. I also work in the library and do experimental lab stuff for fun in school and at home,” he says casually. I wish I could live a life like him. I always wanted to go to the Mathletes but couldn't because I would look like a geek. I am seriously jealous of his life.
“What? Why are you staring at me like that? Angie, you seriously creeping me out now!” he says.
“Sorry.”
“ Would you like to order?” the waiter says.
“I like a burger with fries and you?” I ask Jace.
“I'll have te same,” he agrees. The waiter leaves and Jace says “ I thought you were going to order a salad or something. I guess you're not...”
“ I am not what?” I say.
“The person I took you for,” he says.
“Nice save. As for salad. I like salad but this place has the best burgers and fries you can get!” I say and continue in a british accent. “I swear on my popularity, reputation and...and”
“and fashionableness!” he says. I laugh a little. He smiles. And then of course we don't know what to say and there is an awkward pause.
“Do you get good grades in school?” he asks. I am so thankful he got us out of this awkward situation.
