The absolute terror that filled Damon's body left him paralysed as she took slow strides towards him.
"You know, I really think it's time I checked out," he stuttered, shuffling backwards but not once breaking eye contact with her.
"All I have ever wanted is to be loved," her icy blue eyes had turned glassy with tears. "Why does it always end like this?"
"I'm sorry," Damon whispered, his back hitting the wall.
"You can check out any time you like," she caressed his cheek, seeing the look of relief in his eyes, "but you can never leave."
The fear in his eyes returned when the night man joined them, a shovel in his hands.
The woman standing before him swung, the metal colliding with his head; Damon fell to the floor in a heap and a lone tear slipped from Penelope's left eye.
