Chapter 14

Nicki
"Eat your breakfast please." I said calmly finishing my plate.
"I'm not hungry." She said and I tried to stay calm for the sake of her.
"You haven't eaten in a week Kellise, so please don't start with me today. Eat your food, now." I said raising my voice just a bit. She brought the spoon to her mouth and ate slowly. I shook my head then looked at my daughters who sat quietly. Kaylin was tired because she never gets up at seven and Cameron I guess just didn't feel like talking.
"Your aunt Thembi is coming to watch you guys today." I said and Cameron nodded.
"Cool." She said and I looked down at my food.
"Let's go out to do something today. You want to go shopping?" I asked and none of the girls answered.
"We'll I'm going to one store. I'll bring you guys something back." I said and still got no answer. I noticed Kaylin wasn't eating much so I took her out of her high chair and sat her on my lap.
"I love you so much." I said kissing her cheeks and she smiled a little.
"I see that lil smile." I said and grabbed her plate and started to help feed her.
"Yummy?" I asked trying to read her facial expression, that didn't look too happy.
"Mama I tired." She said and I nodded.
"Okay baby I know. You can go back to sleep when auntie Thembi comes." I said and she continued to eat.
Kellise
"You're being brave okay?" Nicki said rubbing my arm as we walked into the therapy session. I hated this, the only reason I agreed was because I get to see my boyfriend later on today. That's what's really keeping me going.
"Maraj." The therapist said looking out the door.
"That's us." My aunt spoke up. We walked into the room and my aunt sat on the couch and I sat in the chair. I don't know why, but I felt angry.
"Ok, I'm Carla. And young lady, you are?" She asked with a bright smile. Too perky for me.
"Kellise," I said eyeing her up and down. Nicki cleared her throat and spoke up.
"She's a bit upset this morning bec-"
"Kellise can speak for herself. So Kellise how have you been? How do you feel this morning?" Carla asked.
"I've been a little disappointed these past couple days. But today, I'm eager. I only agreed to this therapy stuff because I wanted to see my boyfriend today." I said and she nodded.
"Tell me about your boyfriend. You must like him a lot." She said.
"I love him. He makes me happy and cares about me so much. I can't explain the love I have for him." I said and Carla nodded.
"That's amazing you get to feel that way towards someone. Giving and receiving love is one of the best feelings in the world." Carla said and I started loosening up a bit.
"Nicki, can you tell me your point of view with this?" Carla asked.
"Well my brother and his ex wife aren't very good parents and Kellise came to stay with me. He got upset when she left and I invited him to my daughters birthday, you know, to visit. But that's when I'm gonna tell him about me getting custody of Kellise and I'm absolutely going to fight to get custody of her. She just doesn't trust that I will because I've let her down so many times in the past. I just want us to better our relationship." She said and I looked down.
"Ok. Trust. Trust needs to be built between you two. Kellise you're holding on to things in the past. But clearly, your aunt has moved on and bettered herself and you aren't really acknowledging that and it's hurting her." Carla said.
"I'm hurting too and she doesn't acknowledge that either so we have something in common. She expected me to be okay and happy about everything. I mean yeah she talks to me and got me help but she doesn't really...-"
"Do the full mothering kinds of things with you? If that makes sense." Carla said finishing my sentence, and Nicki looked at me with sad eyes.
"That's what you really want from me... that kind of love, a motherly love." Nicki said and I looked down.
"You just now noticing? You're the the kind of rich aunt that hardly sees me, but then gives gifts when you do see me to make up for time. But all I really want is love and time. But I feel like that's too much to ask from you." I said and she shook her head.
"No. It's not too much to ask. You deserve love just as much as anyone else. No I'm not your real mother, I just didn't want you to feel as if I'm replacing her. But you definitely deserve to be treated like I'm your-"
"No. You already have two kids and I don't want to be a huge burden." I said and she sat next to me.
"You are my blessing. Not my burden." Nicki said.
"We're out of time now. I wanted to give you two sometime to talk. But I hope you'll be back next week. Your relationship will truly grow if you put in the work." Carla said.
"Thank you for your time." Nicki said.
"Thank you." She smiled.
"You both are very welcome." She said as we left.
Nicki
My baby was all up under me for the rest of the day. Thembi said Kaylin cried a little when she woke up from her nap. She wanted me with her. But right now I was preparing dinner at the table for when I meet my nieces boyfriend. I never thought she'd grow up this fast on me.
"Can you pass mommy the spoon please baby." I said to Kaylin. She did her little run over to the kitchen and got a spoon out of the drawer, kind of standing on her tip toes.
"Huh." She said handing me he spoon.
"Thank you baby. Give mommy kiss." I said and bent down to her level and she pecked my lips. I smiled at her before putting the spoon right next to the pan of lasagna. I heard the doorbell ring and Kellise ran to the door to get it.
"Baby! I missed you." Kellise said jumping into his arms and he picked her up.
"I missed you too princess. You don't even know. I love you baby girl." He said before he kissed her. I walked to the door way and cleared my throat. She pulled out of the kiss slowly.
"I love you too handsome." She said hugging him some more, laying her head on his chest. She soon lifted off and he held his hand out.
"Hello Ms.Maraj, I'm Aaron. It's nice to finally meet you." He said and I smiled. He was a gentleman.
"Hi Aaron. And call me Ms.Nicki." I said and he gave me a smile.
"Ok Ms.Nicki." He said and I stepped aside for them to come back in the house.
"I have a two daughters. One and eleven. They'll be down in a minute for dinner. But you can go to the bathroom and wash your hands for dinner. Down that hallway to the left." I said and he nodded walking off.
"Thanks." Kellise said and she hugged me, which took me by surprise. But I hugged back and kissed her cheek. I love my niece, and I'll do anything to make her happy.

"Okay Kaylin, time for a bath." I said and Aaron kissed her cheek before putting her down on the floor and she whined.
"Don't worry Aaron she's just tired and wants to be babied." I said and he nodded laughing a bit.
"Cameron. Can you wash her up in the tub please. I need to talk to Kel and Aaron okay." Cameron gave me a kiss on the cheek.
"Goodnight mom. Aaron it was nice meeting you. You're cool, and take care of my cousin." She said.
"You're cool too Cameron and I surely will. Goodnight." He said back to her and she made her way upstairs with Kaylin.
"Now I don't want you two to be uncomfortable when I talk to you. But, I just want to discuss sex." Aaron looked at Kellise and held her hand.
"After what she's been through. I would never make her go through with something she's not ready for. We talked about this before and we want to wait until the right time. And right now while we're in high school is definitely not the right time. We both know the consequences and we know we're not ready for them but we'll make sure we use protection when we do start to get sexually active." He said and Kellsie smiled at him. I like his guy.
"Thank you Lord! You're always welcome in this household and just by spending some time to get to know you tonight, I see the kind of person you are and I think you're perfect for my niece. I can tell you truly love her." I said and he nodded.
"Of course I do. I don't want her to feel as if I'm using her for sex. So I'll wait as long as she wants to for sex, we'll both know when she's ready. I love her for her, not for what's in between her legs." Kellise laid her head on his chest.
"You see why I love him so much. Can he spend the night auntie? Please I feel so safe when I'm in his arms. Even if it's just until I fall asleep. I missed him so much. She said and I thought about it.
"Okay. As long as it's okay with his parents I'll agree. But if you come to me saying you pregnant in two weeks I'm kicking your ass." I said to her and she nodded excitedly looking at Aaron.
"I promise auntie. No sex. I just want to be in his arms. That's all." She said and Aaron wrapped his arm around her.
"I'll call my parents now. And baby go put your pajamas on I'll be up in a minute." He said and Kellise went upstairs. He called his parents and they agreed. I hope I can trust them.
