Chapter 20

Nicki (4 days later)
"Babe is it okay if I take the girls out for frozen yogurt?" Meek asked as we got out of the car.
"Yeah that's fine." I said getting my luggage out of the trunk. I opened the door to the house and the aroma of food hit my nose.
"Hey, auntie. How was your trip?" Aaron asked moving away from the stove to hug me.
"It was good, thank you. Where's Kel? How's she feeling?" I asked and his whole mood changed.
"She's upstairs. I don't know if she's still sleeping she normally doesn't take naps for over two hours, but you can go check on her. And Kellise hasn't made much progress besides not waking up as much." He said and I nodded.
"Well I'm gonna go check on her right now. But first I just wanna say thank you for everything you've done for her. I really, really appreciate it." I said and he smiled.
"You don't have to thank me auntie." He said and I smiled back at him before walking upstairs to Kellise room. I knocked on the door and didn't get an answer so I walked in anyways.
"Kel?" Still no answer. I walked over to her bed and saw her looking at the wall.
"Hey, how you feeling?" I asked softly, sitting on the bed next to her.
"I'm fine." She whispered.
"Babygirl, it's okay to talk to me. If you're not okay then tell me you're not okay. I wanna know the truth so I can help you." I said and she shook her head.
"No. You don't have to worry about doing that. I-I'm okay. I promise. I had a nice break this week." She said clearly hurt.
"Baby, you don't have to lie to me. If you're not okay then tell me. I won't be angry or upset with you. I promise you that." I said and she shrugged.
"I don't feel great but maybe it's because I'm just waking up and I'm still a bit tired. How was your trip?" She asked and I slightly smiled.
"It was good. We had lots of fun Kaylin really enjoyed it." I said and Kellise nodded.
"I'm about to get in the shower. We can talk some more when I'm out if you'd like." She said and I nodded getting off her bed. I went back downstairs and Meek was just getting back in the house with the girls.
"How was your frozen yogurt trip?" I asked with a smile.
"Good. You cooking?" Meek asked with a sleepy Kaylin in his arms.
"No, Aaron is. He's making dinner. Don't let Kaylin go to sleep. But let me go check on Cameron. She hasn't said anything to me since we got off the flight." I said and I went upstairs in her room. She was in the bathroom and I suddenly heard her scream my name. I opened the door to her bathroom and she was sitting on the toilet looking at her underwear.
"What? What's the matter?" I asked and she started to cry.
"I-I'm bleeding." She said and I smiled.
"No, no don't cry. It's okay. This is good actually. You're starting your menstrual cycle." I said and she looked at me like she saw a ghost.
"My what?" She asked and I got up and got her some new underwear.
"Here, take those off and get in the shower. I'll explain everything to you when you get out. But let me show you how to put on a pad." I took her new underwear and placed the pad in folding down the wings correctly as she watched.
"That's it?" She asked and I giggled nodding.
"I'll wash these and you get in the shower okay?" I asked and she nodded.

"Mom my stomach hurts and this pad thing feels weird." She said walking funny with her hands on her stomach.
"I figured you'd cramp. So I got these pain killers. Only take two." I said and she took the medicine. We sat in bed and I explained everything about periods to her.
"So, every time I bleed it's a baby?" She asked and I shook my head.
"Oh God no. No, sweetie. It's just an unfertilized egg. Having a period is your body's way of saying 'No baby was made this month so let's get rid of this old egg and make a fresh one' An egg isn't a baby until it's fertilized by a male sperm. You get what I mean?" I said and she nodded.
"Thanks mom. But do you mind getting Kellise for me? I want to talk to her about this too. Just us..." She said and I nodded.
"Okay. That's fine. I'll go get her now." I said and walked to Kellise's room. I knocked and she opened her door.
"Cameron wants to talk to you." I said and she looked confused.
"Is she okay?" She asked concerned and I nodded.
"Yeah. She just started her period tonight and she needs advice from you." I said and she smiled.
"Okay. I'll go talk to her now." She said and walked to Cameron's room. I walked downstairs and saw Meek playing with Kaylin. They were sitting on the living room floor playing with toys. I laughed to myself and took a video. He turned around and saw me.
"I didn't even know you were standing there." He said getting up walking to me. We shared a quick kiss before Kaylin grabbed Meeks hand trying to pull him back to where they were playing.
"Let's eat first okay? You ready to eat Kaylin?" He asked and she nodded. They went to the kitchen and Meek started fixing their plates as he talked to Aaron. I walked back upstairs to Cameron's room and knocked.
"Dinners ready. Wash your hands and come downstairs now please." I said before leaving. I went to the kitchen and talked to Aaron while I fixed my plate.
"Would you like to stay for the rest of the week? And go home Saturday morning?" I asked and he nodded.
"That would be really nice. Thanks auntie. I really want Kel to get better." He said and I nodded.
"I get that. I want her to get better too. And has she been eating better?" I asked.
"She'll barely eat breakfast but lunch and dinner are better." He said.
"Can you fix her plate for her please. I want her to eat a little more." I said and he nodded. Once the girls came down we all ate together.
"So, did you and Aaron do anything fun this week?" I asked and Kellise looked at me and smiled.
"Yeah. We went to the bowling alley and the arcade one day. But that was it." She said and I nodded.
"Sounds like fun." I said and she nodded.
"So what's been good with you man?" Meek asked Aaron and he chuckled.
"Nothing much. Just taking care of my baby." He said looking at Kellise who didn't even crack a small smile.
"You're going home today right?" Kellise asked Aaron.
"No, why?" He asked putting his fork down. I could sense Kellise was gonna blow up any minute now.
"Uh, I think maybe you two should go talk in private.... upstairs." I said looking in between them.
"No mom it's fine. They should stay." Cameron said watching them intently. I gave her a look and she looked down before shoving her mouth with food. Aaron whispered something in her ear before gently grabbing her hand, leading her upstairs. After a couple minutes I heard Kellise yelling angrily.
Aaron
"Kel? What has gotten into to you? Huh?" I asked and as she looked away.
"You can't even look at me." I said and tears began to roll down her cheeks.
"You need to leave." She said looking down, still crying.
"Why? So you can suffer alone?" I asked and she nodded.
"That's exactly why." She said and I was shocked. 'What did she even mean by that?', I thought to myself.
"I-I want to deal with my pain alone. It should only be a burden to me, not you." She said sitting down on her bed.
"Baby, you shouldn't have to deal with this alone. That's why I'm here. To be strong for you. You've been strong for three years. Let me help you get better okay? We're gonna get through this." I said sitting down next to her. I lifted her chin and kissed her deeply.
"I love you." I said with my forehead against hers.
"I love you too baby."
