Along the Way: [Noctis X Reader]

Chapter 1: Saying Goodbye

[Name] POV:

You were standing right next to King Regis as he sent Prince Noctis, who you were a good friend with, since you first arrived at the castle, sent him on his journey to Altissia to marry Lady Lunafreya.

Marry.

The word was stuck inside your head ever since you found out, you weren't upset, you were actually happy for him, but you knew, he wasn't happy.

"Thank you...your majesty" Noctis says as he takes a small bow and stands firmly. "Take your leave, and go in the grace of the gods" "Right" Noctis says as you see him push through Gladiolus Amicitia, one of his loyal friends, and royal guard.

They were about to follow him outside, when they quickly turned around and gave a small, but quick bow to King Regis. King Regis was about to head out of the citadel to say one more word to Noctis before leaving to Altissia.

As you stood by King Regis's side when you were heading out the citadel, he stopped.

"[Name], may I ask a favor of you?" You stopped, as you see him turn around to face you as you stood there, waiting for what the King had to say.

"Yes, your majesty?" "I want you to go along the adventure of Prince Noctis after the peace treaty has been signed" King Regis states.

"My apologies, but, you need all the protection that you'll need, especially with Niflheim" You say, worrying about the King's safety not worrying about your own.

"I have more than enough, so please, trust me in this favor of mine" King Regis asks you stood frozen, trying to think of any way, you could stay to protect the King, after all he has done for you, but you heavily hearted accepted his task.

"Thank you, [Name]" King Regis says as he continues to walk out of the palace doors and finds the 4 of them just heading down the stairs to the Regalia.

You call out Prince Noctis as he and his friends turn around seeing King Regis slowly make his way down the castle stairs, using his cane.

"What now?" You hear Noctis say with an annoyed tone as Noctis heads a few stairs back up to hear what else needs to be heard from King Regis. "You place a great burden, on those who bear with you" King Regis says as Noctis chuckles and says, "You're one to talk".

King Regis then asks and thanks Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto to Altissia with no hardships along the way. "Indeed, your grace" Ignis said, "We'll see the prince to Altissia if it's the last thing we see".

Prompto, not one with the 'honorable' status of being an advisor like Ignis, or a buff bodyguard and being a relative of a line of servants under the royal family like Gladio, nervously said, "Yeah, what he said".

You looked over the King's shoulder, and laughed to yourself while rolling your eyes.

That's Prompto Argentum for you.

Noctis interrupts and says, "Hey, I'd hate to break this up, but, Cor's got the motor running" he starts to walk towards the regalia. "[Name], he's in your hands!".

You look at Noctis as he starts making his decent to the Regalia but is interrupted by King Regis, "A-And another thing, do mind your manners of your bride-to-be".

You see Noctis plaster a fake smile on his face,as he turns around facing the King once more, knowing yourself, he never saw Lady Lunafreya as a bride, only a close friend but Noctis still went along with it, only for the alliance between Tenebrae and Insomnia.

"Your majesty as well" the sarcasm was clear in his voice, still trying to act 'royal'."You should too, please be well, to the esteem guests of Niflheim" Noctis says with a small bow.

"You have no cause for concern"

"Nor do you"

"Remember, once you take your leave, you can never turn back" "You think I would?" Noctis says, placing his hands on his hips as the other 3 start moving towards the Regalia.

"But, I know now, you're ready to leave home behind" "I'm ready as I'll ever be". He starts making descent, but once again, King Regis stops him as he turned his back.

"Take care on the long road"

King Regis steps forward, "Wheresoever You should go, the line of Lucis goes with you". King Regis places a comforting hand on Noctis' shoulder, who gave it a small glimpse before looking at the king.

His eyes were filled with something, something that he couldn't describe. King Regis sighed as he said with a heavy heart-

"Walk tall..

..my son".

Noctis POV:

We finally arrived at Galdin Quay and started trudging towards the docks where the boats were.

As we were greeted at the front, someone approached us.

"I'm afraid, there has been issues with the boats" we all stopped as his sudden approach as I wonder why he would tell us, he didn't seem to have the uniform of all the other Galdin Quay employees.

"What's your part in this?" Gladio asks the strange man as he walks past us "I'm an impatient traveler, with stories to tell".

All of a sudden, he turns around, throwing a coin in my direction, before Galdio catches it. "Consider it your allowance, you'll need it along your journey" The strange person says as he continues along the docks.

"Do you actually think there something wrong with the boats?" Prompto asks puzzled on the event that just took place.

"We won't know, unless we see it with our own eyes" Ignis says as the 4 of them starting heading towards the dock where the boats would supposedly be.

I remained quiet.

Something about that guy seemed off, why was he there? And..why did he throw that coin at me? So many questions, yet so little time.

What really threw me off was about the boats and how he seemed to already know about our journey, it might already be in the papers, but..still.

..what does he know?
