Darian paced back and forth in his chamber. He had never been so confused or stuck between a rock, he had to make a decision and fast. If the rebels were to find out they had her, they would stop at nothing to get her and if they do. He shivered at the thought
"I can't let that happen" he sits ungracefully on his bed as he unconsciously unbuttons his shirt, showing his dark tanned firm muscles. King Darian, a very attractive man always had women running after him. Queens, princesses and other royalties. He never slept on his bed without at least two women besides him when he was a young prince. Till he found the one, Redmond's mother. His first love, he loved her with his life and she loved him too at least that was what he had thought.
She deceived him, pretended to love him, married him and they had their first child. When he became king, she put so much interest in the kingdom matters, their weakness and strength. She leaked them out to the rebels who used it to their advantage and attacked the kingdom, this nearly brought the kingdom to its knees.
He had never had his heart broken by any one especially a woman, he loved. It came to him as a death blow when he found out that she was responsible. He was weakened, heart broken. He locked her up, not bearing to see his son as heart broken as he was, he let him see his mother often.
That was the biggest mistake he had made, she turned Redmond against him, feeding him with lies and this made Redmond hate his father.
His mind drifted back to the matter at hand. He closed his eyes tightly, he couldn't think. Whatever, he chose would have repercussions, he had to come up with something, he had no choice but to decide.Maurinette slowly becomes conscious of her surrounding. She was sleeping on a very soft and comfortable bed, she felt her sides and came to conclusion that she was on a very big bed. She keeps her eyes closed, nervous of what she would see if she Opens her eyes. She slips her hands into the blanket and opens her eyes immediately.
She sits up, covering herself tightly with the blanket. She was stripped, she was on her brassiere and panties alone. She looks around and finds no one she releases her breath which she held for a while. Her hypothesis was correct, she was lying on a very large bed, in a very large room. The room is as big as her kitchen, her room and sitting room all together. She looks around, carvings and painting where hung on the walls. The room was painted mauve which made her feel uneasy. Mauve is her favorite color and she is in a room painted mauve, it couldn't be a coincidence. She sees a dress, hung besides a dressing mirror. She stands, still clutching the blanket against her bare chest. She walks to the dress, it was a young beautifully designed red gown. She sees a small note besides it
'put on the dress, I'll be here in an hour, the king needs to see you.
Affira.'She drops the note and walks into a room which she thinks to herself is probably another room till she sees the shower and bath tub. She lets a small gasp as she admires the bathroom, it had everything she needed.
Every thought about been captured, tortured, harassed had vanished.
Besides the large mirror is a table which had shampoos, soaps and toiletries of all sort. Curiosity gets the best of her and she opens every one to smell the fragrance. After her tour of the bathroom, she loosens the blanket and lets it fall down to her ankles. She strips herself and walks under the shower. It was the best shower she had in a long time. She lets herself drift into her thoughts, thinking about how she came to Burrington, telling her mom how she loved here, stealing croissants. These little insignificant memories now became her source of strength. The only reasons why she hadn't killed herself or why she made sure she woke up everyday.
She dried her wet hair with a towel while she walked to the bed, she sees a bag containing under wears. She looks around to see if the person who had kept it was still here
"This is officially on the weird zone now" it was very strange but thoughtful, she needed them. She wears the gown, it sticks to her body like glue, showing off her curves which she never thought were there. The dress showed off much of her skin, she felt self conscious. It wasn't one of the most ideal clothes to wear but she had no other cloth to wear. Her clothes were no where to be found
'they probably took them because they knew I wouldn't think twice about not wearing this dress'
The dress was transparent all over but her chest was covered with a thicker cloth. Her back was bare down to the hollow down of the her back, She brushed her hair and let it drop to her lower back. Thankfully it was long enough to cover some skin, she slipped into the high heels which made her walk slowly to prevent her from falling. She knocked gently on the door and it opens instantly. She sees Affira standing there, a grin appears on her face.
"You look beautiful, the king would be glad to see you" she points at a woman who is dressed In a black striped white dress.
"This is Lisa, she would assist you with whatever you need. Now let's go." she slip her hand into Maurinette's hand, hooking them as she walks down the corridor.
They get to the same door leading to the room she had seen the king. It opens and she walks in with Affira. She sees the king, talking with Hanos as he looks through a map. He was smartly dressed in his royal apparel. A royal blue long sleeves shirt and matching trouser, his blonde hair was combed back but few strands fell across his face. He looked handsome as he stared deeply into the maps, her heart raced as he raised his head and their eyes made contact. She turns away, her body tense when she sees him come closer to her
"Maurinette" she slowly turns to him, mesmerized by his blue eyes. She felt lost, lost in his eyes. she felt like they were the only one here, she had never felt this way about anyone
'he had a son who you killed, don't be stupid. Do you think he will share this same feeling you are nurturing' The horrible realization wakes her from her deep thought. she stares at him, her tongue was tied , her brain turned to mush.He smiles mischievously as if he knew all she was battling with in her head. "You look beautiful, Maurinette." her heart flutters, she felt light headed
"Join me in dinner"
Dinner?" had she been sleeping for so long. He replies
"You slept for two days" he answers her question accurately, she never spoke out loud but he answered her question. He holds her hand and leads here her to a door which opens and they walk in.
In the middle of the huge room was table, it was covered with a white cloth which had blue rose designs embroidered on it. They sit opposite each other, they stare at each other for what seemed like forever and he finally breaks the silence.
"You killed my son" he says, calmly Which made her nervous, he showed no signs of being angry
"But I know you were only defending yourself, my son was a strong headed man and I knew it would get him in trouble and it did. He paid with his life" he drinks from the goblet which contained a red crimson liquid. She had a sick feeling that it was no ordinary wine. It was blood. She felt like throwing up, he notices her uneasiness and smiles
"It is natural for vampires to drink blood" she stares at him with disbelief, this was no coincidence, he could read her thoughts
And then he confirms it with a nod
"I know what you are thinking, I can read your thoughts"
The glass which she held slips and falls to the ground, shattering and spilling it's content.
"You can read my thoughts?" She says, startled and confused.
"That is the least of what I can do. You are a loarin, I believe you have heard this word before" she nods
"You are now the rarest creature known" she felt butterflies in her tummy, he made her feel things which no one could. His meaningless words held deep meanings to her. They did things to her, messed with her brain.
"Loarins are very powerful creatures -------" he tells her everything she needed to know about herself, why she was tortured by the wolves and why she couldn't use her powers. He leaves out the plans they had for her, it would scare the life out of her.
She listened to every detail carefully.
"You are older than you think, Loarins grow extremely fast. In its first year, a Loarin can grow into a matured person. You are much older Maurinette" he says this, to make himself believe, rather than her, that he wasn't about to sleep with a young girl. She stares at him, like he is a teacher, impacting in her knowledge which she needed to know. She didn't want to believe him, she had seen no proof that she had powers, rather than the constant threats on her life. She didn't want these powers which he accused her of, she never wanted any of this. She wanted a quiet life with her parents, to live without drawing attention to herself. She had gotten enough attention before and was tired of it.
She picks up the knife and fork and tries to cut her food into bits but her hands shake violently. The fork skips from her hand to the floor and makes a loud noise when it came in contact with the floor
"Shit, so clumsy" she mutters to herself as she bends down to pick it. In a flash, he bends over beneath her and picks it. She gasps when she sees him. She looks down into his eyes, he made her want to believe everything he had said. She wanted to believe it but she couldn't, she didn't want to believe anything. This was a bad dream and she wanted to wake up now
"Am I a bad dream" he looks at her with those dreamy eyes, the eyes that turned her brain to mush. This was too much too handle. She couldn't let her feelings control her. When he stared, he saw the fear in her eyes, he felt heat broken. She clearly likes him just like every other woman has, but she was different and he felt his heart rip apart when he tried to take advantage.
She stands up "you are not a bad dream but all this " she raises her hands "is very hard to believe. I have to go, you do not bear a grudge against me for killing your son so, I don't see why I need to stay here"
The firmness in her voice startled her and Darian. She turns to leave
"You want to go back? You don't have a home" she stops but doesn't turn to face him, he was saying the truth, she had no where to go.
"Or you want to go back to the wolves who tortured you and killed your parents" hot tears drop from her eyes
"I can protect you, you can stay here, away from everything, every worry. No one can hurt you here." he regretted saying that, he was going to hurt her. She could not run away from this. She was in too deep, everywhere she goes, she will be hunted down. She is a tragedy magnet.
"Why?" she turns quickly, cleaning the tears on her cheeks. He stands and walks to her, holding her hands
"Because I know what you feel for me and I feel the same" that was the final blow, his heart was ripped to shreds. He took full advantage of her vulnerability, preyed on her like an animal. He could not stand himself, he lets her go and turns away. The guilt was too much to bear.
"Go and rest, you need it" he walks away
